NOTES
ALUMNI DAY
This Thursday, January 4 we encourage alumni who are home for the holidays to come visit us at school. We will share a schedule of classes they might enjoy attending and participating in, will host them for lunch, and will have them meet with Roy and the 8th graders to discuss the rite of passage that is graduation and the transition to our alumni community. If you know alumni who plan to attend, please share this link for RSVP.
SKIING AND RIDING NEXT WEEK 1/12
Thank you to everyone for attending to the many forms and communication related to our three skiing/riding programs on Friday afternoons in January and February. Those dates will be January 12, 19, 26, February 2, 9, 16. Note that this Friday is a regular, full school day.

K-8 Downhill Ski/Ride at Burke Mountain
  • Equipment: If you have your own, please take the time this week to be sure that it still fits and is fully functional. Daily rentals from Burke Mountain are only available to those who completed paperwork and were fitted here at school in November. Otherwise, if you still need equipment, we suggest purchasing well used equipment from the Burke PTO Ski Shop in West Burke, through personal appointment or leasing practically new equipment from the Village Sport Shop by going to them directly and mentioning the Riverside discount.
  • Fees: Lift tickets and lessons for students are included in Riverside's tuition. Those of you who have season passes save Riverside that cost. We are grateful and hope we have accurate information. Please let Nelia know of any changes. Daily rental fees of $10-15 and chaperone lift tickets of $10 will be applied to your school store account.
  • Chaperones: If you haven't already, please complete the form Nelia emailed last week to help clarify your specific availability and preferences.
  • Pick Up: Plan to find your child in the lower level of the base lodge at 3:30, unless you gave permission for them to ski unsupervised until the lifts close at 4:00. Riverside teachers will not be supervising students in the lodge after 3:45.
  • Questions: Email Nelia, who is coordinating the program.

K-8 Cross Country at Dashney Trails
  • Equipment: If you have your own, please take the time this month to be sure that it still fits and is fully functional. Consider getting a tune up at the resort or one of the local shops. If you need to rent from Northwoods at Dashney instead, please let Joel or Caroline know.
  • Fees: Trail fees are included in Riverside's tuition. Daily rental fees of $10 will be applied to your school store account.
  • Chaperones: You should have received an email from Joel and Caroline thanking you for volunteering. They plan to share more details in person before heading to the trails next Friday.
  • Pick Up: Plan to find your child at the Cross Country Center operated by Northwoods Stewardship Center at the Dashney Trail system at 3:15.
  • Questions: Email Joel and Caroline, who are coordinating the program.

FRENCH OPPORTUNITY

This is a great opportunity for Riverside 4-8th graders who will be going to Quebec on our Spring Field Trip this year! If you, or anyone in you know, would like to attend, we will be restarting after the holidays on January 6th. It's open to anyone of any level of French. Email Jack with questions.
ANNUAL APPEAL
We are sincerely grateful for the numerous ways in which Riverside Families contribute to the health of our school. As you've read in previous Memos, we rely on the current parent community to organize fundraisers to help bridge the gap between tuition and expenses. We notice and appreciate the hours of time and expertise that all parents give in their work on committees, baking, volunteering, substitute teaching, chaperoning, gardening, painting, and more.

Our other key strategy in raising the income we need is our Annual Fund, an appeal for which goes out to almost everyone we know. While we'd like you to consider the size of your gift as it relates to the difference Riverside makes in your lives and your other philanthropy, what matters most is simply your participation. There is no gift that is too small. If you haven't already, please consider making a gift to Riverside today.
