Celebrate Constitution Day

and National Voter Registration Day

Each year, we honor Constitution Day on Tuesday, September 17, the day the framers signed this historic document in 1787. Dive into the stories of the framers, explore the formation of the Constitution, and read the full text online at the National Archives website.

September 17 is also National Voter Registration Day. As we reflect on our nation’s history, let’s also remember to exercise our right to vote. Take a moment to register or update your registration through the CA Secretary of State website. Your voice matters!

Shoutout to Professors Andréa Pantoja Garvey and Christopher Padgett

Professors Andréa Pantoja Garvey and Christopher Padgett wrote pieces for a new volume by Roman and Littlefield Press titled Breakthroughs in College Reading: The Promises and Tensions of Disciplinary Reading Apprenticeships.

In this volume, Professors Pantoja Garvey and Padgett join several higher education colleagues from 4 states (and Canada), covering the California Community College, CSU, and UC systems and a variety of disciplines, including STEM, Social Sciences, Humanities, and English. The chapters address the creative ways college faculty can support skill-building and enhanced reading approaches with students in the classroom, no matter the subject or the professor’s disciplinary background.

Here in Los Rios, Professors Pantoja Garvey and Padgett piloted a major professional development initiative (along with Amanda Corcoran) focused on Reading Apprenticeship training. This initiative included the participation of many ARC faculty, and throughout the series, trained hundreds of colleagues across the district.
