As We Begin to Enjoy the “Locals” Summer,
Please Help Us Keep Solana Beach Clean
| |
As the warm weather continues, we are very fortunate in Solana Beach to enjoy a more relaxed “locals” summer. With that in mind, it’s important for all of us to remember that our beaches are a shared community space, and we each have a responsibility to keep them clean and safe.
The City highly encourages the pack-in, pack-out mentality, meaning whenever possible, what you bring to the beach should leave with you. Although the large summer crowds have diminished, we’re still seeing significant amounts of trash daily. Debris from bonfires, leftover food, plastic waste, and other litter not only detracts from the natural beauty of our beaches but also poses a threat to wildlife and the safety of our community.
With a heat wave on the horizon, even more people will be heading to the beach, so we all need to be extra mindful about picking up after ourselves and reminding others to leave no trace. Before you leave, take a moment to double-check your area, clean up any trash or items that don’t belong, and dispose of them properly. Small actions like these make a big difference in keeping our beaches safe and clean for everyone.
Our beaches are part of what makes Solana Beach such a special place to live. By looking after them, we protect something that benefits us all. As we settle into this more local summer, let’s all pitch in to ensure our beautiful coastline remains clean and welcoming.

Stay Cool During the Heat Wave at a "Cool Zone"
|
With the heat wave on the way, take a break and stay cool at designated Cool Zone locations, including our very own Solana Beach Public Library. The San Diego County Cool Zone program offers free, air-conditioned spaces, like libraries, where everyone, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and those with health concerns, can find relief. These Cool Zones are here to help you stay safe, hydrated, and comfortable during the scorching weather. Plus, by using these locations, you can give your home’s A/C a break, save on utility costs, and help conserve energy for the whole community.
Fletcher Cove’s 100th Anniversary Celebration Party
|
Join the Solana Beach Civic and Historical Society in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Fletcher Cove. They will be hosting a special party to commemorate this important landmark on Thursday, September 12th, starting at 5:00 PM at the beautiful Fletcher Cove Community Center. This iconic Solana Beach site was carved out in 1924 by Colonel Ed Fletcher and his wife Mary to provide easier access to the beach, a pivotal moment that shaped the future development of Solana Beach and helped turn it into the charming beachside community we know today. Join us next Thursday for cake, ice cream, and learn about the rich history behind Fletcher Cove. Don’t miss out on this historic celebration!

The City will be hosting a community workshop on Thursday, September 19th, at 6:00 PM at Skyline Elementary School’s Multipurpose Room to discuss an upcoming pedestrian enhancement project along Glencrest Drive. This proposed project will add standard concrete curbs, gutters, and sidewalks on both sides of Glencrest Drive, from Lomas Santa Fe to Dell Street.
