Dear SMCS Families,
I hope you are having a great summer! I hope you have enjoyed the time off from the routine of school. It is hard to believe that school starts in a little over two weeks.
We have been busy getting ready for the upcoming school year. After school ended, Mrs. Blankenship and Mrs. Howell decided not to return to SMCS. We will miss them but wish them well. Welcome to our new staff members or staff members with new assignments or name changes:
- Mr. Ed Bredehoft moved from PE Teacher to Fifth & Seventh Grade Social Studies Teacher.
- Mrs. Laura Colley will be one of our new First Grade Teachers.
- Mrs. Ashley Curtis-Mrs. Ashley Ben-David got married during the summer.
- Mr. Ilan Garza moved from Fifth & Seventh Grade Social Studies Teacher to PE Teacher.
- Ms. Dylan Jackson moved from Full Time substitute to First Grade Instructional Assistant.
During the summer, we had SMCS staff members that attended great professional development. Here are some of the professional development sessions: CyFair Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships Conference; Texas School Safety Summit; Harvard Project Zero Classroom; Balfour’s Adviser Workshop; and World Youth Day.
We did some additional security upgrades. We added mesh wiring to the PK3 playground fence and the fence along the teacher parking lot by the cafeteria. A gate was also installed by the two back doors to the cafeteria as an added layer of security.
We are very excited about the 2023-2024 school year. Here are a couple of important updates to the dress code:
- The khaki skirt is no longer part of the SMCS dress code for girls in sixth through eighth grade. All girls are required to wear plaid skirts.
- The light blue polos are no longer part of the SMCS uniform.
- The SMCS school logo is copyrighted and should not be used by any vendor other than Dennis uniforms. SMCS families should purchase all embroidered items from Dennis uniforms.
- Updated Hair Length Policy for Boys: Boys’ hair must be a modest length. It must not extend below the top of the shirt collar, below the eyebrows, or below the middle of the ear. Boys are not permitted to shave or cut lines, designs, letters, numbers, etc., into their hair.
SMCS spirit day will be Tuesdays for all grade levels. Students are invited to wear an SMCS spirit shirt with their uniform bottoms. PK4 students will attend Mass on Tuesdays and are invited to wear their spirit shirts with their regular uniforms to Mass.
Thank you for your support! See you soon!
Blessings,
Dr. Kathleen Cox
