Meet Elijiah, Serenity, and Imani - PYN interns who spent their summer working at local Fishtown business, Harriet's Bookshop. Named for historical heroine Harriet Tubman, Harriet's Bookshop celebrates historically marginalized authors, artists, and activists.
In addition to gaining exposure to the world of small business, Elijiah, Serenity, and Imani explored community development, exhibit curation, activism, and the life and history of one of Philadelphia's historic black judges, Harvey Schmidt.
"At Harriet's, our interns are exploring history, art, storytelling, and place making. Though they might not realize it, they are teaching Philadelphia about it's history through books", says Jeannine Cook, owner and intern supervisor at Harriet's Bookshop.
