Talking to Patients About Routine Vaccinations

August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) and the CDC has updated it’s website with resources to help discuss routine vaccinations with your patients. All staff in healthcare practices play an important role during NIAM and throughout the year in promoting vaccinations for their patients. CDC provides Immunization training courses, interactive resources for patients and promotional materials that can be printed or posted on various social media platforms.

To coincide with NAIM, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has developed a free, self-paced training: Vaccine Confidence Training and Tool Kit. This course provides CME credits.

COVID-19 ED Visits and Hospitalizations Increase

While COVID-19 emergency department visits and hospitalizations have increased over the last few weeks, death rates remain the same. Vaccination continues to be a vital tool to protect public health. One dose of the updated (bivalent) vaccine is required for individuals to be considered up to date.

You can make a difference. Help keep your community safe and healthy. Assess and offer vaccines at every encounter.

Emergency Preparedness: Add Extreme Heat to Your Facility's Plan

Extreme heat events are a leading cause of weather-related deaths and the number of heat-related deaths is rising. Adults over 65 and those with existing medical problems such as heart and lung disease are especially at risk. As part of your facility’s emergency preparedness plan it is important to stay informed. CDC’s Heat & Health Tracker provides local heat and health information to better prepare for and respond to extreme heat events. The database is searchable by zip code and tracks daily and weekly heat-related illness as well as worker health.
