Internship Spot Light
A.J. Speranza and Michael Yates have the unique opportunity to work with Goman + York this summer in their formal internship program.  A .J. Speranza is working primarily with Accubranch and is assisting with socio-economic and data analysis for various bank clients.  As a part of this analysis, A.J. is becoming adept at using ESRI: GIS mapping software and is working on advanced excel skills.  A.J. has attended municipal meetings where TIF programs have been discussed.  Mike Yates is working on lease abstracts for G+Y and is also included in municipal meetings.  He has worked on RFP responses, as well as proforma's for specific clients. 
 
Goman + York conducts Corporate Training Sessions/ Lunch & Learns with their full team to review some of the priorities and training a student may need as they enter the Real Estate profession. The Goman + York team has been motivated by the energy and interests of recent full time hire Jeremy Rocha, and interns A.J. Speranza and Mike Yates. the Lunch & Learns provide a review of terminology, an introductory to planning and zoning, communications and branding, and a basic financial review that includes proforma's as well as operating statements, data analytics and the impact of ancillary revenue.

With nearly 50 years of combined experience, Goman + York  provide a unique, blended service to owners, investors, municipalities, education and medical organizations interested in enhancing their real estate development opportunities. The firm treats goals of land owners and municipalities equally, which offers a more collaborative approach to the project development process. 


Internship Highlights
Jonathan Lore is interning for Bronstein Properties in Queens, NY as a leasing and property m anagement Intern this summer.  Bronstein Properties is a second generation real estate
management firm that specializes in acquiring and operating multi-family, rent regulated prop erties throughout the greater New York metropolitan area.  Bronstein's portfolio encompasses over 150 properties with approximately 6,500 primarily rent regulated units in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens, making them one of the largest landlords in New York. Most properties contain 60 to 120 units and are generally located in upscale, emerging or middle-class neighborhoods such as Hell's Kitchen (Manhattan), Sunnyside (Queens), Brooklyn Heights and Bay Ridge (Brooklyn).

Jonathan's tenure at Bronstein, has included exploring all facets of the business operation. Jonathan to date has primarily been working in the property management division where he has had the opportunity to work directly beside property managers and gain valuable insight into the development and overall facilitation of their properties. He will also be working in retail and residential leasing, with a main focus being tenant representation.  Jonathan says "I'm grateful for the opportunity to work under Bronstein's owner Scott Silverman as well as our director of property management, Ray Seelal. I can't thank them enough for their mentorship as It is a tremendous honor to work alongside them." 
Tiffany Gherlone Earns Terminal Doctoral Degree
On June 7,  Tiffany Burns Gherlone completed her rigorous studies in completion of her terminal doctoral  degree.  Tiffany earned her DBA in Finance  through Sacred Heart University under the advisory of  Professor Lucjan Orlowski.   Professor John Glascock served as her external Advisor.  Tiffany's focus was on daily-priced private commercial real estate and the title of her paper was in her words, "too long to put in the newsletter".

Tiffany is the Head of Research & Strategy for UBS Realty Investors, at UBS Asset Management.  She earned her Real Estate Undergraduate degree in  2002 and her MBA in 2007 from the University of Connecticut.

Congratulations Tiffany,  we are extremely proud of your accomplishments and success.

The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies has many students who have received full-time or internship placement for 2019, and are still in the process of placing others.  2019 - 2020 Calendar 
Fall 2019 Real Estate Society Events -  The Real Estate Society meeting are scheduled for every Wednesday, 6:00 PM Busn room 214.  The Society will hold several social/networking events throughout the semester. Students should watch for emails from the Real Estate Society for details on these events. In-classroom professional speaker events are currently being scheduled.
