Mayor of The Town of Deep River Suzanne D'Eon Discusses Closer To Home and The New 96-Bed Long-Term Care Home

Hello James,

I recently sat with Suzanne D'Eon, Mayor of the Town of Deep River to discuss the 96-Bed Long-Term Care project. I want to share my sincere and personal appreciation to her time and willingness to talk with me on camera, and the Town of Deep River Council for their support (in a wide variety of forms) for our ongoing Closer To Home campaign. It was a good interview, and I learned a lot myself... you can watch it with this link.

Behind-the-scenes, I have called upon Town of Deep River staff to help me on several occasions. Just one example is the recent support of the Run For Home 2023 event held in June. Many people are aware of the $10,000 grant that Council voted on to support our expenses in running the fundraiser. However, what isn't commonly known is that Town of Deep River staff brought us chairs, tables, and fencing to help with the event. They have no obligation to help us and yet they do! I personally appreciate that.

Another significant thing that the Town of Deep River Council has done for DRDH is voting to provide a grant of $55,000 to help offset project costs. In addition, the Mayor on behalf of Council has promised to write a challenge letter to neighboring municipalities as well as the County of Renfrew to provide support for Closer To Home as well.

I am encouraged by this news, since the Long-Term Care Home that will provide shelter and care for 96 people and their families by extension is NOT just a "Deep River" project. People from across Renfrew County will call the building home. For many, Closer To Home will mean Deep River.

My final comment for the month is that we have received numerous private stock transfer donations towards the Closer To Home campaign recently, and I'd like to thank those families again here.

Sincerely,

James Thompson

Special Thanks To Ken & Leela Philipose For Their Recent Donation Of $15,261 To Closer To Home!

"We are really excited about the 96-bed Long Term Care home to be built in Deep River. We believe that this facility is essential to take care of our aging community. This new Long Term Care Home will give the people who love living here, the option to continue living in this beautiful town. However, this would also require a local fundraising effort of $2.5M. This is why we are committed to support the DRDH financially and otherwise and be part of the donor group."

Ken & Leela will join 36 other households, individuals, and companies on the permanent donor recognition plaque in the new home. This number is growing! If you are interested in joining the Philipose Family and many others in supporting the Closer To Home Campaign, please contact us today to discuss options and ideas.

Would You Like To Reduce Your Tax Bill In 2024? Consider The Power Of Donating Appreciated Assets

In some cases, it might be in your best interest to donate or fulfill a pledge with the donation of publicly-traded shares and bonds rather than cash. For some people in the right circumstances this will lead to a tax savings. Below is our interview with Chris Carroll, CPA if you'd like to learn more about this concept. Thanks to Chris for spending time to discuss this, and for being our 2024 Golf Tournament presenting sponsor!
