Israel moved from Evelyn's Place into one of our transitional apartments this month! We will certainly miss his smiles and sense of humor around the shelter, but we are so incredibly proud of the hard work he has put in, and can't wait to see him shine in his next chapter of the S4 Program!

Last month, we shared that one of our moms at Easton's Promise was able to secure childcare. We are happy to report that she found employment almost immediately! One of our dads also found a job this month. This is a big step for our families, and puts them firmly on the path back to self-sufficiency!

The children in our program will enjoy trick-or-treating this evening, thanks to our wonderful supporter, Julie Quick, who made sure everyone has costumes. We can't wait to see everyone all dressed up and ready for some Halloween fun!

A new group of guests at Easton's Promise has started The Six Pillars of Character for Adults. During this class, they will learn about the Six Pillars of Character - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship - and how to incorporate pillar-related actions into their daily lives.

At Evelyn's Place, seven guests completed our new Life Skills Training course. During each session, the group discussed a different topic, such as taking care of one's health, making good decisions, risk-taking, and self-image. This inspired many robust conversations, and our guests now have a better grasp on the basic life skills needed to achieve Success! We will be hosting a certificate ceremony for them this week... Every milestone on the journey to independence is a cause for celebration!

YOU make all of this possible. Your generosity, kindness, and compassion changes lives for the better. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you!

November is Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month!

Did you know that November is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month? As the weather begins to cool off, it is a harsh reminder that there are families and individuals in our community who do not have safe shelter, and who are facing unimaginable challenges in the months ahead. We will be partnering with several local businesses and organizations to help raise awareness for our mission and how TIS helps our neighbors in need overcome those challenges to get back on their feet and stay there! Please help us support these local establishments just as they are helping Talbot Interfaith Shelter fight homelessness in our community:

A percentage of proceeds from meals at Legal Assets and Doc's Downtown Grille will go to TIS each Thursday in November.

Household goods collection boxes will be placed at the following locations:

Walmart

Mid-Atlantic Tire Pros

Bay Vanguard Bank (Idlewild)

Baby items collection boxes will be placed at the following locations:

Easton Nails

Bay Vanguard Bank (Commerce Drive)

We will be adding more partners in the days ahead. Make sure to click the button below to find the most updated list of all the happenings during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month!

Who Is TIS?

Team TIS Making a Joyful Noise!

We were honored to have been the beneficiary of the "Making a Joyful Noise" concert, hosted by the United Women of Faith and Union United Methodist Church in St. Michaels on October 21st. This inspiring event featured the Covenant Gospel Choir, the Second Generation Community Chorus, EBC for Christ, Raven Gill, Ben Roark, and Ayla Dennis. Thanks to these talented individuals, over $2,000 was raised in support of our mission. We are so grateful!

An Award From ACBB and Bay Vanguard!

Thank you to Atlantic Community Bankers Bank and Bay Vanguard Bank for choosing Talbot Interfaith Shelter to receive an award of $2,500!

We were nominated by Dane Schriver of Bay Vanguard Bank, and were one of only ten organizations to receive an award. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of local families and individuals!

A Very Special Guest Update...

A few months ago, we shared Josh's story with you. Josh is an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. When you last heard from Josh, he was hoping to find a new guitar to help him with his performing and songwriting. Our Maintenance Coordinator, Will Steele, is also a musician, and heard about Josh's wish. He reached out to a friend who owns a guitar shop, and his friend donated a beautiful Epiphone guitar and a new amp for Josh. He is thrilled, and his beautiful music sounds better than ever.

Josh had the opportunity to perform at our Shelter Showdown & Hoedown, and blew the audience away with his powerful voice. Watch the video below to see him perform a very special song that he wrote for his mother, who passed away when he was fifteen years old. We are so very proud of Josh, and so thankful for all of the support you have shown him throughout his journey at TIS so far!
