National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the United States. In my experience, Latino workers largely rebuilt New Orleans after Katrina, they came and put our city back together.
The Latino presence in America spans centuries. In fact, the present-day states of California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, most of Arizona and Colorado, and parts of Oklahoma, Kansas,
and Wyoming were part of Mexico until 1848.
It’s necessary to recognize and value the many contributions Latinas and Latinos have made here in the United States.
I can’t imagine the US without the colorful Latin culture of music, food,
celebration, artists, athletes, activists, writers, scientists, entertainers,
military veterans, entrepreneurs and so much more.
Viva la Vida!
Additionally in September our nation changed forever.
On September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks caused tragic loss of life at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in sight of the nation’s capital, and a quiet field in southern Pennsylvania.
This horrified the world.
Remember September 11th.
On a very personal note, we recently lost our beloved sister, Rosie.
She was a fun-loving, hardworking, care-taking woman who will be terribly missed… Show your loved ones that you love them every day.
Fly Rosie fly…
With love, Angel(a)
