GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, October 28, 2023) – Five trials for the $478,755.98 Texas Classic Derby (G1) were contested on Saturday night over a muddy (sealed) track at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie.
All five of the trials produced at least one qualifier to the final which will be run on Saturday, November 18.
Leading the group of three-year-olds was Jess Good Wine (by Good Reason Sa - Mr Perrys Wine by Mr Jess Perry). The sorrel gelding trained by Toby Keeton and owned by Guns Up Racing, entered the trial fresh off of a win in the All-American Invitational Stakes on September 3 at Ruidoso Downs.
Bryan Candanosa was aboard the wagering favorite for the win, covering the 440 yards in :21.199.
In the same trial, runner-up Market Analysis (by Favorite Cartel - Bartiromo by Walk Thru Fire) set the second fastest qualifying time crossing the finish line in :21.419, 1 1/4 lengths behind Jess Good Wine. The supplemental entry trained by Manuel Rodolfo Rodriguez, ridden by Esgar Ramirez and owned by MRB Racing was also the runner-up in this year's Dash for Cash Derby (G2) on October 7 at Lone Star Park.
