Halloween Update


Students are permitted to wear costumes to school on Tuesday, October 31. If your child plans to dress up for Halloween this year, set guidelines are in place to maintain safety and learning for this day.


The following are not permitted:


  • No costume masks covering the face.
  • No weapons or props can be carried.
  • No images or symbols that would be deemed offensive.
  • No costumes that would pose a hazard or restrict a student from sitting or moving through the hallway.
  • School dress code applies (appropriate length/not revealing)


Thanks for your cooperation as we try to make the day fun and exciting, while still focusing on our primary responsibility of teaching and learning.


Additionally: Halloween edible display raffle: Proceeds will help support the holiday family drive.... raffling two edible Halloween displays. 

6 tickets for $1.

The raffle will take place on Monday, Oct 30th. 


School Picture RETAKE DAY


 November 17, from 8:00am-9:00am

 

1) If your student was absent on the first picture day, he/she can get their picture taken on retake/absent picture day. 

 

2) If your student was absent on the first picture day, there will be an ordering site available so you can order online. (cavanaughphoto.com/order)  Or, if you placed an order before the first picture day and didn’t realize your child would be absent, it will be honored.

 

2) If your student wants a retake, you must bring back the original picture packet that was ordered. Or, if you only ordered a hi-res digital file, please send a note in with your student stating that a hi-res digital file was purchased. If the packet or note is not returned, a new package will not be printed until the original is turned in.

Memory Video


Thank you again to the 8th-grade team of teachers, chaperones, and students for another successful Washington DC Trip. Listed below is a link to share some of the memories captured. ENJOY!

Photos/Videos Needed for Newscast 


The WIMS crew has been gathering/taking pictures and videos for our newscast. We are still in need of Cheerleading, Girl's Cross Country, Student Council, Gamer's Squad, the school play, and Golf Club pictures and videos. Thank you to EVERYONE who has already sent in pictures and videos, we will be using them in the first newscast of the year!


Future newscast segments will include: Builder’s Club, Junior Biology, Fall Fest, Halloween at school, Spirit Week, Yearbook Club, Popcorn, Kona Ice, Canned Food Drives, Fundraisers, and possibly more. No video is too short or too long! 


Students can upload videos to the WIMS Google Classroom. The code to join the classroom is evfppvs. 


Parents can either have their children upload videos/pictures to the WIMS Google Classroom or they can be emailed to rpietrzak@independence.k12.oh.us


We will be accepting videos/pictures all year long for even more sports and activities. Feel free to keep sharing. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask Rachel Pietrzak at rpietrzak@independence.k12.oh.us

7/8th Grade Girls Basketball Tryouts


Monday 10/30/2023 from 4:30-6:00pm in the IMS Gym


Interested players should bring basketball shoes, a water bottle, and appropriate athletic attire (including a shirt that has a number on it). Students must have a current physical form in FinalForms, as well as all electronic parent and student signatures completed, prior to tryout. The coaching staff will not permit anyone to tryout with missing FinalForms signatures and/or outdated physical documentation.

IMS Spirit Wear


This sale will only be held ONCE, and features tons of NEW items & logos. Orders will be delivered in November. Remember, this is the ONLY spirit wear sale for 2023-24, so make sure to order anything you have your eye on at this sale! We can't wait to see all of our IMS families and staff members showing off their new spirit wear this year!

Builders Club


IMS Builders Club will be hosting a FREE and fun candy competition during the lunch periods on Monday, October 30th for a chance to win some sweet treats. We will also be passing out raffle tickets for anyone dressing in costume on Tuesday for a chance to win a prize.


November Meeting Dates: November 6th and 20th from 2:45pm-3:30pm in Mrs. Koussa's room. Students will be released out the back recess doors. These meetings will focus on our community food drive. 


Don't forget to download the Box Tops App and scan those receipts! All proceeds go towards Builders Club service projects and fundraisers.
