Adopt A Pet from the Lassen

County Animal Shelter – Grizz

Looking for a wonderful dog to bring along on summer adventures? Look no further because Grizz is the dog for you!

Grizz came to the Lassen County Animal Shelter as a stray and has settled in quickly. He’s a happy go-lucky kind of guy who loves to play and run laps in the outdoor dog runs. Grizz greets all shelter visitors with tail wags and smiles, ready to meet his new family every time the door to the kennels open. He gets along with other shelter dogs and have we mentioned how handsome he is?

Forest Service Begins Toilet

Replacement Project Around Lake Almanor

The Lassen National Forest, Almanor Ranger District, will begin the Almanor Toilet Replacement Project at Almanor North & Almanor South campgrounds July 31st with a projected completion date of August 31st, 2023.

The project will include temporary campground closures at each of the two sites, starting first with Almanor South campground on July 31st for approximately two weeks, followed by Almanor North campground for the following two-week period.

Operations will not impact public access to the beach or boat launch; however, visitors are advised to be aware of extra vehicle traffic and heavy equipment in the area for the removal and installation of these new facilities. Please proceed with caution as you travel to the lake.

Campgrounds will only be closed during the two-week operation at each site and will be available for use before and after work is completed. The nearest open restroom facilities during the duration of this project can be found at the Lake Almanor Boat Launch.

This project has received funding for from the Great American Outdoors Act of 2021, which established the Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund and represents the single largest investment in public lands in U.S. history.

“We are excited to be able to implement this project with funding authorized by the Great American Outdoors Act. The forest has been working to replace these restrooms for several years. These funds allow us to continue upgrades to trails and campgrounds, to provide enjoyment and increased access to many of the public’s favorite places.” said Janie Ackley, Forest Recreation Program Manager.

“While these areas are closed and facilities are under construction, please remember to recreate responsibly. Embracing stewardship ethics like Leave No Trace and TREAD Lightly in order to minimize recreational impacts to public lands is key to keeping our outdoor spaces clean and safe for all our visitors.”

“Leave No Trace principle #3 teaches us to dispose of waste properly and leave only footprints. Learn more at Leave No Trace Leave No Trace – Home – Leave No Trace (lnt.org) and Home – Tread Lightly.”

For additional questions on this ongoing project, you can reach the Almanor Ranger District office during regular business hours at 530-258-2141.

Susanville is Prepared to Receive Journals Get-Acquainted Excursion

August 5, 1911

The business men of this place are enthusiastic for the Journal’s ‘get-acquainted’ excursion to this county, and arrangements will be made to entertain the Reno boosters.

While no details have been perfected as yet it has been suggested that the train be met at Hot Springs on the N. C. O. with carriages and autos and bring the entire party up the valley to Susanville and after some informal entertainment, return them to Doyle by the way of the South side of the valley.

Editor F. C. Sefton of the Lassen Mail said: “Of course Susanville will give the Reno business men a royal welcome. We are pleased that Reno is awakening to her advantage in this direction. We want to meet them and shake them by the hand and show them what we have done, and are willing to co-operate to make the excursion a success as far as Lassen County is concerned.”
