God Provides
“So Abraham called that place “The Lord will provide,” as it is said to this day,
“On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
Genesis 22:14
Yahweh Yireh means “The LORD will provide.” That is what came to Abraham’s mind when he saw a ram in the thicket. He was moments away from sacrificing his son, only to realize that God had another plan all along. The dreadful journey to Mount Moriah had not concluded with the sacrifice of his son, but with the voice of God reassuring him of His faithfulness. What relief that must have been. God indeed provided.
This year has not started at all as my wife, Megan, and I expected. I don’t know if I feel more like the ram caught in the thicket or Isaac bound to the sacrificial altar, but either way, it’s not a good feeling. I have a lot to be grateful for: we are all in good health; we are not living on the streets; and our daughter is happily oblivious to it all however, it has been a stressful and trying season, especially for someone like me who loves to help but not be helped. It’s a humbling feeling, but I realize I need to be humbled and give thanks for what I have.
A few things happened over the past weeks that stopped Megan and me in our tracks because it was so evident that God was at work even during this anxious period. He has provided in some surprising ways. Many times, it is through people and situations that we would not have expected, but God’s hand is so clearly at work. He makes presence known at exactly the right time.
And maybe you need that reminder too. Whatever you’re going through God is at work, though it may not be apparent at the time. He hasn’t promised that life will be easy, but He has assured us that we will never be alone. So, keep your eyes open, keep your prayers going, ask for help when you need to, and know Yahweh Yireh.
