Sexual assault survivor helps change legislation
Not everyone who fights the law can boast a win, but alumna Brandy Mullen (class of 2001) was part of a group that did just that.
Brandy is a sexual assault survivor and professor in Georgian’s Health, Wellness and Sciences department. She, along with other survivors from across the country, successfully challenged Canada’s legal system, changing legislation related to publication bans.
On Oct. 26, Bill S-12 received royal assent and is now law. Within that bill, there’s a section on publication bans. Now, no longer can a victim or complainant be prosecuted for breaching their own publication ban.

Alumna’s automotive career in her blood
Grace Stein was born into a car-loving family so it’s not surprising that she’s an alumna of Georgian’s Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (Automotive Management) program (class of 2023).
“My earliest memory as a child is being at the racetrack. On Fridays, I would get picked up early from school to go there, which I thought was so cool because my dad had this big race trailer and truck that were wrapped to match,” she said.

Give Georgian students a strong start to 2024
As another semester ends, we hope you might consider supporting Georgian’s Alumni Bursary, as part of the Grizzlies Give Back program to make a difference in the lives of Georgian students. The alumni bursary, a unique program supported by proud grads like yourself, helps to open doors, remove barriers, and allow students to focus on their studies instead of financial worries.
Or, you may want to consider a year-end gift to the Georgian Food Locker our on-campus food bank, which serves as a discreet and urgent resource for Georgian College students facing food insecurity.
As you know, there are tax advantages associated with charitable giving to Georgian. Donations made on or before Dec. 31 may be eligible for a tax deduction. Always remember to consult with your professional advisors for specific information related to your individual giving and tax circumstances.
Your generosity can shape the educational journey of deserving students. Every donation has impact, helping Georgian students benefit from an unrivaled student experience.
