The AHR Expo in Chicago will be here before we know it! BACnet International will be exhibiting at Booth S6100 in the South Hall in the Building Automation section. As members of the BACnet International Community, we would like to invite you to volunteer in the BACnet International booth. This is an excellent opportunity to network, meet members of the BACnet team and talk to attendees about your company's BACnet products. This year, volunteer booth shifts are only for 1 hour, however, we encourage you to sign up for multiple shifts throughout the show period if your schedule permits. Additionally, the BACnet International booth will have more seating for volunteers.

ANSI/ASHRAE 135.1-2023 – Method of Test for Conformance to BACnet was released for publication and is now available for order from the ASHRAE bookstore.
This publication is a joint effort between the ASHRAE SSPC 135 and the BACnet International BACnet Testing Laboratory Working Group (BTL-WG).
Per bacnetinternational.org, the BTL-WG “is responsible for the technical aspects of the of BACnet International’s testing and listing activities, the central goal of which is the improve BACnet interoperability between building automation products.” Historically, part of this responsibility has been the creation of so called “BTL Specified Tests”, which are either newly created test concepts and steps or modified tests from the 135.1 standard. This is done to expedite the testing of devices that are introduced to the testing labs that implement functionality that does not yet have tests available. Or, on the other hand, an implementation undergoes testing that uncovers a deficiency in an existing test.
This approach has the benefit of speed. A focused group of technical experts can turn around modifications – often in days or weeks. The SSPC is much slower, and the turnaround is often months.
However, an unfortunate side effect of this approach is that, unless properly maintained, it can lead to separation from standardized tests. This can lead to perception of two standards, one maintained by the SSPC (135.1) and another maintained by BACnet International (BTL-WG Specified Tests, specifically Test Package 23.2).
I’m happy to say that, as of the publication of Addendum 135.1-2019s, this situation is resolved. This addendum integrates the changes created by the BTL-WG into the published standard. Thus, the publication of ANSI/ASHRAE 135.1-2023 also includes these changes.

Tips for a Successful BTL Testing Experience
While the Testing Services Team is estimating the time required to perform the BTL Testing of your device, we do make specific assumptions in order to provide an accurate estimation of testing hours. These assumptions are necessary to successfully complete BTL Testing.
One important assumption is that the testing performed at the RBTO will be to test the compliance of the BACnet implementation and does not include any development testing. We do assume that the manufacturer has fully completed development of their product and has also has fully completed all internal pre-testing of the product prior to being submitted.
Another important assumption is that the manufacturer is able to provide instructions on how to setup their device and how to perform each test, related to their functionality, defined in the current BTL Test Package. These instructions will assist the RBTO with the setup and execution of the required tests and will keep time and costs to a minimum during testing. The RBTO will request that these instructions be submitted using the IUT Special Instructions document prior to the start of BTL Testing of your product.

Belimo Announces
the Launch of a Relay Water Leak Detector Sensor
|
|
|
|
Sensor provides visual LED status indicators, adjustable height and auto reset in a NEMA 4 rated enclosure
DANBURY, CT, Nov. 16, 2023 - Belimo is pleased to announce the launch of the 22HL-50 Leak Detector Sensor. This sensor is engineered to detect liquid leaks in containers, drain pans, false floors, suspended ceilings, and rooms. With its Americas headquarters located in Danbury, CT, Belimo is the global market leader in the development, production, and sale of field devices for the energy-efficient control of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.
The 22HL-50 Leak Detector Sensor features a single relay contact that can be wired to alert a control system, trigger an alarm, or close a valve to halt the flow of liquid. It has easy to read green/red “traffic light” status LEDs for clear visual indication of leaks. The Leak Detector Sensor’s adjustable feet allow it to be raised off the floor, level in all situations, and configured to detect the specified liquid level.
Encased in an IP65 / NEMA 4 rated enclosure with a ½ NPT conduit connector, the Leak Detector Sensor is a reliable and durable addition to Belimo’s Sensor and Meter product range. The 22HL-502, a dual relay version with an additional connection to the valve to interrupt water flow directly, is expected by Q1 2024
