In the Spotlight

This November, Idahoans will vote on whether to establish open primaries and ranked choice voting (RCV) for future general elections, including congressional, gubernatorial, and state and county elected offices. What are open primaries and RCV? What are the benefits and drawbacks of these systems, and how would they alter Idaho politics and elections? Join us for the conversation!

Book Review

"This book is a reminder that ... food can profoundly impact our minds, and it encourages us to take control of our health—one meal at a time."

Circulation Supervisor Cándida Miniño recommends This Is Your Brain on Food by Uma Naidoo.

In This Is Your Brain on Food, Dr. Uma Naidoo explains how food is a powerful tool in managing mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and even ADHD.

In this book, the author informs how different nutrients affect our mood and cognition. She discusses the roles of various food groups, from omega-3 fatty acids to gut-friendly probiotics, and does so while sharing her own experiences and case studies from her practice.

Naidoo offers strategies for incorporating brain-boosting foods into our regime, giving general guidelines that let us add provisions to our meals without having the strictness of a diet.

If you prefer meal plans, she curated recipes you can implement in your daily life...

Book Beat: Student Book Review

Hi! My name is Kire and I love to read. Other than reading I like to do gymnastics and play viola. For my Book Beat review, I read The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lyn Barnes.

The Hawthorne Legacy is the sequel to The Inheritance Games. In the first book a 17-year-old girl named Avery Kylie Grambs finds out that she inherited billions from Tobias Hawthorne. The only catch is that Avery had no idea who he was.

She and her love interest, Jameson Hawthorne, begin trying to solve clues to find out why Tobias picked her.

In this sequel, all of the action, mystery, and love gets more and more interesting throughout the book. Avery and Jameson continue the mystery and find out some crazy things that you would have never thought would happen...
