Recycled water facility named in honor of
U.S. Rep. Grace F. Napolitano
L to R: LA County Sanitation Districts GM Robert Ferrante, Metropolitan GM Adel Hagekhalil, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton, Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano, Metropolitan Board Chair Adán Ortega, Jr., Metropolitan Board Vice Chair Michael Camacho, and Yorba Linda Water District GM and Retired Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Mark Toy
Honoring the visionary leadership of the retiring congresswoman, Metropolitan earlier this month dedicated the Grace F. Napolitano Pure Water Southern California Innovation Center, the demonstration facility of the regional recycled water program. Throughout her distinguished career, Napolitano has supported and secured funding for recycled water projects and fought to ensure that every Southern Californian has access to safe, reliable drinking water.

The Grace F. Napolitano Pure Water Southern California Innovation Center is testing each stage of the innovative water purification process. This ensures that our purified water meets or exceeds California’s water quality standards, which are among the highest in the world. The center also builds public understanding of the science behind recycled water with tours and education programs.
“Not only will the Grace F. Napolitano Pure Water Southern California Innovation Center revolutionize the way we think about water, but, like the congresswoman, it also will inspire the next generation of citizens, innovators and leaders. The center symbolizes a brighter and more sustainable future for our region.”

Developed through a collaborative partnership between the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, Pure Water Southern California would increase the reliability of regional water supplies by recycling and purifying water that currently flows to the ocean. The program would produce up to 150 million gallons of water daily, making it one of the world’s largest purified water projects. To learn how to become more involved, visit mwdh2o.com/purewater or sign up for email updates for the latest news.
