CLEAR THE SHELTERS

SPECIAL ADOPTION EVENT

The RC Animal Center participated in Clear the Shelters, NBCUniversal Local’s nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign, during the month of August. The Center participated by offering special adoption fees. The Center offered special adoption fees that included $5 Felines for to all cats and kittens and $50 adoption fee for all dogs and puppies. Additionally, a very generous anonymous donor stepped up and sponsored the adoption fees on all dogs adopted on August 25 and 26!

The month of specials culminated on August 26 with an adoption event at the Animal Center featuring vendors, refreshments for purchase, and pet stroller and carrier sales. Clear the Shelters was a major success, resulting in the adoption of 143 cats, 68 dogs, a hamster, and a rabbit. The RC Animal Center would like to thank our participating vendors, donors, volunteers, and of course the adopters who made this success possible!

SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH

Suicide Prevention Month is a time to raise awareness and inspire people to learn how they can play a role in their communities to help save lives. While suicide is often associated with feelings of loneliness and isolation, it is a shared and far-reaching public health problem. As one of the top nine (9) leading causes of death in the United States in 2021 for people ages 10-64 and the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-14 and 20-34, suicide affects all ages and types of people. But thanks to an increase in awareness and resources, prevention efforts have become more common and effective.

In addition to shifting public perception, let’s use this month to spread hope and vital information to people affected by suicide. Our goal is ensuring that individuals, friends, and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 immediately.

If you are uncomfortable talking on the phone, you can chat the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988lifeline.org
