Personalized Care, Compassion & Empathy--Concordia Basics!

Exciting times are ahead for Sarah (Vehle) Jensen '13 and her husband Steve! The couple are expecting a baby boy in June. A nurse at Children's Nebraska, Sarah is ready to welcome their baby and enjoy motherhood!

Sarah earned her nursing degree at Creighton University and found the program rigorous and challenging, but felt well-prepared after her high school experience. "Not only was I prepared in the classroom, especially in the math and science areas, but my experiences outside of the classroom were just as important. As nurses, it is our personalized care, compassion, ethical standards, and empathy that sets our profession apart in the healthcare world. Concordia engraved so many of these values on my heart," said Sarah. She feels her teachers exhibited kindness and generosity by giving up their personal time to come in early or stay late to answer her questions. The daily religion classes and weekly chapels were a constant reminder for her of God's love. She is especially thankful for her former teacher, Mr. Phil Meggers. "He explained the complicated principles of math and physics in a way I could understand. He pushed me out of my comfort zone by encouraging me to participate and compete in powerlifting, which in turn taught me so many life skills and built my confidence," she shared. Today, Sarah works at Children's Nebraska in the Orthopedic Clinic.

Some of Sarah's favorite memories of her time at Concordia include Homecoming week, participating on the dance and cheer team, and the Senior trip to Niobrarra. The opportunity to do so many activities and the family atmosphere she felt each day she entered the building are what she holds dear. "I will never take for granted the God-centered curriculum, faith-filled classrooms, prayer time, and opportunity to discuss world issues together," she said. Sarah has enjoyed coming back to Concordia recently for her 10-year class reunion and the annual gala. Says Sarah, "I had so much fun seeing how the school has grown and catching up with faculty and other alumni. '

Staff Spotlight on Mr. Tony Love

Passions Lead to Wins!

Mr. Tony Love, brother to Mr. Nic Love, came to Concordia in 2022 and has formed the first-ever Esports team!

Mr. Love graduated from Concordia University, Seward, in 2011 with a BS in Mathematics and a BS in Secondary Education. Before arriving at Concordia, he taught in Iowa, Taiwan, and Mainland China. After China, he spent four years in New York State pursuing his PhD in Mathematics at the University of Albany. He and his brother had hoped, from early on, to one day teach at the same school, so his role at Concordia is an answer to prayer!

Mr. T. Love teaches several Dual Credit courses in Calculus and Computer Programming, as well as basic math courses such as Algebra and Geometry. For him, the calling to be a Lutheran teacher has long been part of his life. His parents put him in Lutheran education as a child, and he was confirmed in that faith as a young man. Mr. Love says, "I see the mission of Lutheran education, the spreading of the Word, front and center every day here, and faculty that are dedicated to that."

Gaming has been a passion of Mr. T. Love's for many years, so it was an easy fit for him to start the first Esports team at Concordia. In the first year, the team met with huge success by winning State. He shares, "Since the first state win, we've had more great results and built a really fantastic community of gamers who have a wonderful time competing and playing. It is so good to see kids become friends and bond over their shared gaming interests."

Although he has only been at Concordia for a short time, he is excited to see all of the changes that have taken place since his arrival. With the addition of the Academy to the Fort St. campus, Mr. Love is in a brand new classroom that shares a wall with a current construction zone. "It's really exciting to see the new floors being poured, the walls going up, and literally smelling and hearing the changes in the air every day! The new building will be a great space for everything we do and will do in the years to come," he says.

For Mr. T. Love, it was wonderful for the Academy to make the move since it allows him to be on the same campus as his two daughters, who attend the K-1 Ignite program. His son is enjoying time at home with his wife, Sara, until it is time for him to begin school. When he isn't teaching, Mr. T. Love likes to do coding on odd projects, play games, and spend time with his family.
