Orangetown Night, Clover Stadium

August 10, 2023

Despite the on-again, off-again rain on August 10, 2023, many Orangetown residents still made it to Clover Stadium to participate in Orangetown Night and cheer on the Rockland Boulders. Thanks to Harry Mirijanian for organizing the Boy/Cub Scout Honor Guard, and to the Pearl River, South Orangetown and Palisades/Sparkill Little Leagues for joining the on-field celebrations. For those who did not join us, you missed Ciara Carle’s stunning rendition of the National Anthem and Danny Gurniak’s bold performance of God Bless America. And thanks to Ray Lennon who was there to capture it all on film for us. It was a great night and Supervisor Kenny is already looking forward to seeing more of you there next year.

Happy 100th Birthday Francis ("Frank") T. Duffy

Deputy Town Supervisor Denis Troy attended a 100th birthday party for World War II Veteran Frank Duffy. Frank, retired from the United States Marine Corps, participated in the landings at Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Private First Class Duffy was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart for his bravery during combat. His family, along with the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the American Legion, Post 329, wanted to make sure that Frank's 100th birthday did not go unnoticed.

Second Annual Bridges Golf Outing

Supervisor Kenny stopped in at the BRIDGES 2nd Annual Golf Outing this week to show support for the good work that they do in Rockland. BRIDGES is a community-based, peer driven, cross-disability, not-for-profit organization dedicated to advocacy and leadership on behalf of people with disabilities. Stay Safe with Your Personal Electronic Vehicles! Whether it's an electric scooter, a hoverboard, or an electric skateboard, here are some crucial tips to keep you riding smoothly and safely:

Wear Your Helmet: A helmet is your best friend when it comes to preventing head injuries. Safety first, always.

Check Your Gear: Before you roll out, give your PEV a quick once-over. Make sure your brakes, lights, and tires are all in good working condition.

Follow Traffic Rules: Yep, even on your PEV, you're part of traffic. Obey traffic signals, stop signs, and yield to pedestrians. Safety and courtesy go hand in hand.

Stay Visible: If you're riding at night, make sure you're visible to drivers. Reflective clothing, lights, and reflectors on your PEV can make a huge difference.

Keep Both Hands on the Bars: Save the multitasking for later. Keeping both hands on the handlebars gives you better control and reaction time.

Avoid Distractions: Texting and riding? Not a good combo. Keep your focus on the road and surroundings.

Respect Pedestrian Space: Sidewalks are for pedestrians. If you're riding there, give them the right of way and maintain a safe speed.

Mind Your Speed: Speeding might feel exhilarating, but it can be dangerous. Stick to safe speeds for your surroundings.

Charge Responsibly: Regularly charge your PEV batteries, and don't leave them plugged in unattended. Overcharging can lead to safety hazards.

Park Wisely: Be considerate when parking your PEV. Don't block walkways or accessibility ramps.

By following these guidelines, you're not just protecting yourself, but also your fellow riders and pedestrians.

"Re:Think Recycling!"

If you accidentally put an item in your recycle bin that is NOT recyclable (for example: plastic bags, hoses or cables) the Rockland Green "Feet on the Street Team" will put an Oops! tag on your bin, letting you know what item was not acceptable. We're all in this together to keep Rockland Green!
