WalMart Anti-Theft Operation Big

Success for Susanville Police Department

On Thursday, November 16th, officers with the Susanville Police Department conducted an anti-theft detail at Walmart and according to SPD Captain Michael Bengoa-Bollinger the operation, with the assistance of WalMart employees, was a big success.

Here are the results of the operation:

Four individuals were contacted for suspicion of committing theft. These individuals were identified and released with no citations issued.

A 27-year-old Susanville resident and a 22-year-old Susanville resident were arrested and transported to the Lassen County Jail for shoplifting and conspiracy to commit a crime.

A 56-year-old Standish resident was arrested for shoplifting and resisting arrest. The subject was cited and released at the scene.

A 40-year-old Redding resident was arrested for shoplifting after discovering he was changing price labels on items and purchasing them at a lower price. A subsequent search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded Glock handgun and suspected Fentanyl.

He was taken to the Lassen County Jail and booked into the jail for violation of probation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a controlled substance.

Captain Bengoa-Bollinger thanked Walmart and its employees for all the assistance they provided.

Future operations will continue soon with other retailers.

Susanville Method of Conducting a Public Library

November 21, 1907

The Public Library and Reading Room at Coffin’s is becoming more popular every day as shown by the increasing attendance and patronage.

The Library Association has secured the first installment of State Library books, which will be ready next Saturday to loan to readers.

Mr. Coffin informs us that he has associated with him Mr. B. E. Cobb and C. L. Cobb, brothers from Los Angeles. The former has a reputation as an expert chef and will soon cater to the desires of the public in that line.

C. L. Cobb will have charge of the library and reading room and the billiard tables and also the store. Mr. Coffin will continue his agent’s line of goods.

It will only be a matter of a few days when the gentlemen will have a pool table and another billiard table ready for the lover of that popular pastime. The one billiard table they already set up is kept busy.

Quite a number of ladies are learning the game and many more are waiting for more tables.

It is the intention of the gentlemen to at once fix up the balcony with booths for serving light lunches, oysters, ice cream, tea, coffee, etc.

The balcony will be reserved for the use of ladies or ladies with escorts. A lunch counter will be arranged on the main floor. The rooms will be open from 8a.m. to 11p.m. every day except Sunday.

Sundays, the library, reading room, store and lunch business will be closed from 10 to 12a.m., and from 7 to 9p.m. No games will be played on Sunday.
