August 22nd, 2023
Dear Colleague,
We are having a busy and exciting summer at CUGH with lots of new events and opportunities to share with you and our colleagues around the world.
Our virtual Global Health Week, open to all, will take place online October 30th to November 3rd. Anyone can send in a proposal to hold a virtual satellite session. The deadline is September 15th. Submissions for abstracts, and panels for our in-person conference (March 7th-10th) are also due by September 15th. Submissions for in-person satellite sessions (Mar. 7th) are due Nov. 3rd.
We have just opened our call for new Board members. You must be a CUGH institutional member to apply. The deadline is Sept. 30th.
Two new CUGH programs: join the new GHECo initiative for educators and the Young Global Health Professional Network.
Many congratulations to our colleagues at the African Forum for Research and Education in Health for putting on an excellent annual meeting in Maputo Mozambique. We thank President Dr. Elsie Kiguli-Malwadde, Conference Chair Dr. Emilia Noormahomed, Executive Director Mrs. Georgina Yeboah, Clara Sam-Woode and the team in their office. It was an inspiring meeting and AFREHealth continues to grow in strength from year to year.
We wish you and yours a safe and restful summer. As always, please share our newsletter widely.

ARTICLE: HEALTHCARE FOR OLDER PEOPLE IN LOWER AND MIDDLE INCOME COUNTRIES
Two-thirds of the world's population aged 60 years and over will reside in lower and middle-income countries (LMIC) by 2050. As population aging is a global issue, effective and sustainable global solutions are much needed. Proposed strategies include stemming the outflow of trained healthcare workers to high-income nations, public education, preventive measures, and innovative approaches to training.
