Three Open IAFP Board of Director Positions


The IAFP Nominating Committee is seeking one active member from District 2, one active member from District 4 and one active member from the state to serve an At-Large position on the IAFP Board of Directors. 


IAFP Board of Director priorities/interest areas include: Education, DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion), Advocacy, Workforce, Member Engagement, Pathways, and Operations. 


You may nominate yourself or another active member for consideration by the committee. The counties that encompass each district may be found below.

Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Advisory Committee Volunteer Needed


The IAFP is looking for a volunteer to serve on the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Advisory Committee (EDHI), a multidisciplinary group from the Iowa healthcare community including the Iowa Hospital Association, private practice audiologists, pediatricians, family practice physicians, and otolaryngologists. The EDHI typically meets in April, June, and July at a location in the Des Moines area. Please email Sonia at sbell@iaafp.org for more information or to volunteer.

Join the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Office of Cancer Survivorship (OCS) for a virtual event, Enhancing Capacity for Primary Care Research in Cancer Survivorship: A Workshop for Action, on February 28, 2024, to discuss research needs for addressing the intersection between primary care and cancer survivorship.

This meeting will explore actionable opportunities for impact that focus on the following three questions:

  1. What are the key challenges and facilitators influencing the development and implementation of research on primary care and survivorship?   
  2. What are the most important gaps (research, infrastructure, and practice) that need to be addressed to advance science in this area?
  3. How might collaboration across different research areas, disciplines/roles, and organizations create new opportunities for impact?

Iowa-licensed physicians are required to complete 2 hours of Category 1 credits for chronic pain management and 2 hours of Category 1 credits for end-of-life care every five years. These requirements became effective August 17, 2011, are for physicians who provide primary care to patients (e.g., emergency physicians, family physicians, general practice physicians, internists, neurologists, pain medicine specialists, and psychiatrists.)

Cost-$40 for IAFP/AAFP Members
$50 for Nonmembers
Please Note- This 2-hour course DOES NOT count towards your 8 hours of training on opioids and other substance use disorders prior to renewing or obtaining your DEA license.
