Snowbasin Ski Team Members, Alumni & Friends,

We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated donors supporting our Butch Hoffman Scholarship Fund, which enables us to help athletes in need. Thanks to their generosity, we have awarded over $15,000 for this upcoming season, positively impacting 12 athletes already. We would be remiss if we didn't take a moment to sincerely thank the donors and sponsors who make all of this possible.

Skiing is not just a sport—it's an investment in your athlete's personal, physical, and mental growth, as well as in your family's outdoor experiences and our shared mission. Without the financial support of our donors and sponsors, providing these opportunities would be immeasurably more difficult.

Whether through a one-time gift or an annual giving commitment, please take a moment to reflect on the generosity of those listed below and their contributions that make your athlete's journey possible.

We extend our deepest gratitude to each sponsor, partner and donor for your unwavering support. You are the driving force behind the positive impact we’re able to make on the lives of these young athletes, both on and off the slopes.

Best regards,

Troy D. Price

Anderson Cove Athlete Orientation

What an incredible campout to launch our 2024-25 seasonal year! We were thrilled to welcome 50+ enthusiastic U12 & older athletes who came together to play, paddle and engage in dynamic team-building activities. The energy and camaraderie among everyone truly highlighted the spirit of the Snowbasin Ski Team, showcasing our ability to unite skiers of all ages and skill levels in a supportive and joyful environment. It was a fantastic opportunity for athletes to connect, learn, and grow together!

Thank you to Level 9 for the paddle boards and to BOD Member and parent Jeff Allen for being the Grill Master extraordinaire. Read more below in the Work Deposit section on how you can best put your talents to use this summer or on snow in exchange for work deposit credit.

Goal Setting 101

Setting goals is absolutely critical in both ski racing and personal development, as they serve as the guiding force that propels you towards success. Goals not only keep you focused on the big picture, but they also create a detailed roadmap to navigate the long and challenging ski season ahead.

In a fantastic article by Jim Taylor, various types of goals are highlighted, including long-term goals, yearly goals, performance goals, preparation goals, and lifestyle goals. We encourage you to review these with your athlete and embrace open communication with your coaches to discuss these essential goals.

Remember, skiing is not just about competition; it's about having fun! So, get out there, embrace the joy of skiing, and let your ambitions drive you forward on this exhilarating journey!

Like Life, Ski Racing is Hard. But Like Life, it is Joyful too!

Ski Racing Prepares Children to Succeed in Life…it has the potential to develop personal character in such a positive way if this sport is put into perspective….it teaches young people invaluable Time Management Skills and Sportsmanship Virtues especially when one has a disappointing day in the Race Gates, but still celebrates their friends and teammates good results at the award ceremony. Fruits include Discipline and Focus, Goal Setting and teaches one how to control the controlables by focusing on what they can control, and letting go of what they can’t fostering Maturity.

Like life, ski racing is hard, but like life, it is joyful too…Ski Racing like many sports is a great dress rehearsal for life and then you get to become a great skier regardless of how many times you did or did not climb the podium. You gaze upon the wonder and the beauty of God’s rocky snow covered attics and mountain perches on this amazing blue/green planet we call home and you get to inhale the scope of God’s creation.

It can be a spiritual and physical dance with our Creator…Sublime…You make life long friends. Today one of my best friends, who is just a few years older than me was a skiing idol of mine, ended up being my Coach for a couple years and is still a big part of my life…

I think the ultimate joy for me was I got to pass on this World of Skiing and the Ski Racing Culture to my Daughter Sofia…Skiing and Racing changed my life. It is a passion of mine and I can honestly admit that I was able to become an M.D. thanks to the life skills and character that Ski Racing carved in my life and psyche as a kid.

Read and listen to Jim Taylor’s Sage advice…Enjoy

Work Deposits

Our nonprofit organization relies on the volunteer efforts of athlete families and community members.

Team tuition includes a built-in "work deposit," which can be reimbursed towards tuition by logging volunteer hours by the athlete's supporter. Community members can volunteer a full day at race and comp events in return for a day lift ticket to Snowbasin.

Volunteering during events where your athlete is participating can be challenging. However, you are welcome to volunteer for other programs within the organization. For example, if you have a Devo athlete, you might choose to volunteer at an alpine program race. Alternatively, you could assist as a timekeeper or hot chocolate server at the base to support your Devo racer! There are also numerous opportunities to help outside of competition events.

While most volunteer positions do not require specific skills or training, some roles in races may. Pursuing additional training is optional but can be a rewarding way to get more involved!
