Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’
Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’
And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ – Mt 25: 34-40
After FIFTY-THREE YEARS OF SERVICE to Good Shepherd Manor, serving those wonderful men with special needs, Brothers Alphonsus Brown and Charles Pratt will be honored at their Mass of Thanksgiving before they retire from active ministry ion Momence and enjoy the company and living with the other brothers in their community in Albuquerque, NX. I have implored our faithful to skip the weekend Masses at the local parishes and join us to honor them at this Mass, held at Good Shepherd Manor on September 29 at 2:00 p.m. (or you can attend two Masses on the weekend – that might also be good for the soul!). Both Kristen Stockle and Erin Richey from the Manor have been putting in the extra time to offer appreciation for the kind of ministry that very much follows the mandate of Matthew 25 to serve “the least of my brothers,” who, in reality, are the most treasured by God.
I do not know these two good souls nearly as well as those who have served with Brothers Charles & Alphonsus for the last half century. What I know of them is an encounter of a type of love that quietly has been offered in so many different ways that models the mandate of Matthew 6, which both Alphonsus and Charles “do in secret” but is a shining example of faith which all of us should model in our respective vocations.
I have included an article and a couple of YouTube Videos about their good work below. Good Shepherd Manor also has a Facebook Page, which I encourage you all to subscribe and read.

The Purpose of Good Shepherd Manor
High Quality & Compassionate Care
To maintain a Catholic presence at the Manor, I will do what I can to serve as their chaplain and serve on their Board of Directors. God bless Brothers Charles and Alphonsus for their good and faithful work! Have a blessed and well-deserved retirement!
Over at St. Patrick’s Church in Momence, some of our senior members of the parish had difficulty moving old tables around in the basement of the church. Thanks to a wonderful donation from the Club Ninja Dojo and Melissa Potempa, we were able to take seventy-five chairs from the dojo and put them downstairs in our parish hall. Thanks to some wonderful anonymous donors, we were able to buy THIRTY new tables to replace the old, broken heavy ones that have been donated to various causes and replaced with lighter “lifetime” tables. (Since we are at it, THANK YOU to another anonymous donor who provided funds to the St. Anne Food Pantry for TWENTY Lifetime tables that are used twice a month to serve the needy of St. Anne!!!.)
I also have been getting a workout blessing homes, celebrating sacraments and anniversaries throughout the area (especially in the Pembroke Township - my car gets layered in the dust from the unpaved roads A LOT!). The pictures in the GIF above reflect the table donations and some of the ministries offered at the parish during September.
And finally... Happy Birthday,
Secretary EXTRAORDINARIO Ema Elvir!!!

REFLECTIONS ON THE ST. PAT'S COMMUNITY PICNIC
On September 15, two students from the University of St. Francis attended the St. Patrick’s Community Picnic as part of their ongoing college formation. Both Michelle Valencia (from Fr. Pete’s “Theology of Death & Dying” course) and Anna Jakubiec (from Fr. Pete’s “Hispanic Ministry” Course) were asked to write reflections from their experience at the Border Town. Below are their reflections, both in English and in Spanish.

Your Susie Pansa "Moment of Zen" at St. Patrick's Community Picnic...
Besides torturing Fr. Pete's Poor Dog Gabby (who seems more desperate
than ever for belly rubs)

|
One example among a zillion that took place on September 15. Reports have come in that a poor child who purchased a hamburger at the picnic… DROPPED THE HAMBURGER IN THE GRASS!!! Faithful steward Susie Pansa would have none of this and made sure that the child got a new hamburger. Susie owes the parish ten tickets (or we owe Susie a BIG THANK YOU!!!).

MASS FOR THE 26th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Celebrated at St. Patrick's Church - Momence, IL
It is said that if you attend any given Mass that the same priest (or deacon) celebrates each week, you pretty much get a good idea as to what themes on which the priest (or deacon) focuses. In Fr. Pete's case, he returns to the themes of welcome, hospitality, faith, hope and love, which the communities he serves have offered to those in the Border Town and the wonderful results from offering such welcome and hospitality.

UPCOMING PROJECTS
AT ST. PATRICK'S
| |
WE HAVE REDUCED OUR PARISH DEBT AT ST. PATRICK'S BY A FACTOR OF OVER $250,000 IN THE LAST TWO YEARS!!!
St. Patrick’s Church Debt finally is now just above $80,000 but we still have a bit to go. We talked about how that debt grew to over $330,000 and how our business managers have been able to reduce it by a factor of $250,000 in two years. Before we can get to the other side of our ledger at Pat’s (and think about parking lots, classrooms for our kids, etc.), this debt needs to be eradicated. Thanks for those who have helped us reduce our debt and please consider doing what you can to lowering it even further!
