danceFLOORED x The Post Chapel @ Sandy Hook

Tuesday September 12th, 6-7p class

Join for post class cocktails + eats available at The Mule Barn Tavern next door.

Grab your spot here

ALL LEVELS WELCOME. No, nope: You do NOT need to be a dancer. Just need to love a rocking good time. While the sun sets to your right, and the salty air brushes against your already salty-from-sweat-skin, to a DJ bumpin', among good people.

This event is such a glorious win of a

September evening.

*Please note, these danceFLOORED events tend to sell out and this one is doing just that after being posted on social media this weekend. So it is highly recommended that you grab your spot. Here you go.

New Look for Sandy Hook Foundation

A big shout of thanks to Jill Kashmer of Jillustration who volunteered her time and talent to give our logo an updated look and feel. Jill became aware of all Sandy Hook has to offer when her son started at M.A.S.T. Check out her other gorgeous and one-of-a kind work here. Thanks Jill!

Cruise Control

For the summer season, the Foundation outfitted park rangers with two new bicycles for Multi Use Path patrol, ranger-led bicycle tours, and general mobility inside the park. Be sure to thank a ranger when you see one, for all they do to support your visit to Sandy Hook.

Welcome to Three New Trustees

The Story Behind the Story -

Colonel Tye

The Sandy Hook Foundation together with SGJ Consulting has been working with community partners to determine how to best tell the story of Colonel Tye and the Black Brigade at Sandy Hook, in anticipation of the upcoming 250th Anniversary of our nation in 2026.

Enjoy this piece by Professor Brett Palfreyman of Wagner College, published in the NJ Studies Journal which explains our work thus far.

Sandy Hook Foundation President, Pete Izzo, and Shawn Welch, a retired Army engineer officer and Co-Chair of the Secretary of the Interior's Fort Hancock Federal Advisory Committee, participated in Preservation NJ's August 10, 2023 unscripted conversation "Talks with our Ten Most" where PNJ shares updates -- and lessons learned -- from past PNJ Ten Most Endangered Sites. Sandy Hook, specifically Fort Hancock, was listed in 1995. Learn more at Preservation New Jersey.

Fort Hancock and Sandy Hook Proving Ground National Historic Landmark are home to several batteries and historic Army buildings, the oldest surviving lighthouse in the U.S., and a former United States Life-Saving Service station building which bears witness to the maritime history of this peninsula. Since 1895, Fort Hancock was one of the places vital to American defense up to the nuclear age. For more on Sandy Hook history, visit HERE. Missed it? Listen here.

Volunteer in Parks (VIP) Shorebird Ambassador Season Comes to an End

A "thank you pizza & dessert party" was held at Spermaceti Lifesaving Station for the Shorebird Ambassadors who volunteered during this past busy summer season. They helped to educate and promote the importance of protecting and preserving the park's resources to positively impact the visitor experience and the survival of various shorebird species, especially the endangered Piping Plover.
