Dear Colleagues,
November is National Gratitude Month and I would like to express my gratitude to educators for the work you do, day-in and day-out. Educating young minds is no easy task but your unwavering dedication and commitment continues to inspire me.
November is also National Homeless Youth Awareness Month. There are still far too many youth experiencing homelessness who face unique challenges. As educators, we understand the important role education can play in preventing and ending homelessness among young people. To learn more about this important issue and for resources, I encourage you to explore the abundance of resources, training and events listed on the California Homeless Education Technical Assistance Center (HETAC) website.
Additionally, November marks Native American Heritage Month. Our agency has published instructional materials for educators that are available for downloading from our website. The materials aim to provide resources and meaningful discussions about the significant contributions of Native peoples to our culture and society.
In closing, I want to congratulate Mt. Diablo Unified School District teacher Joseph Alvarico of Ygnacio Valley High School for being named one of five 2024 California Teachers of the Year by the California Department of Education. He exemplifies the high-quality teaching and learning going on in Contra Costa County schools every day.
As always, we are committed to providing you with ongoing professional development opportunities. We have compiled a list of webinars and workshops covering a wide range of topics. We hope that this monthly email serves as a valuable resource for you, and we encourage you to share it with your colleagues.
With gratitude,
Lynn Mackey
Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools
