The Evolution of Change

Change is a word that has many emotions wrapped up in its definition. Change is constant, or it should be to stay fresh and viable in any field or business you operate. Change can be refreshing – a new way to approach things or solve problems. Change can also be scary. Sometimes, over the years, we settle into a particular way of doing things, and if we haven’t changed to stay current with the demand, there has to be a dramatic change to remain viable.

The healthcare industry nationwide is experiencing change. You might say healthcare is constantly changing. There are always new ways to approach wellness initiatives, new treatments for diseases, and even how healthcare is delivered has evolved.

That is all true, but with COVID-19, the way and rate of change accelerated unexpectedly. Nationally, rolled into the flurry of change, healthcare professionals are now exiting the profession in mass numbers, leaving the remaining providers to care for the sick and injured.

Regional West is not alone, as these challenges affect how health systems operate and allocate resources while focusing on the patient experience and providing the highest quality healthcare services. According to the Nebraska Hospital Association, 55% of Nebraska hospitals are currently running in the red financially while facing increased labor and equipment costs.

As a healthcare institution, Regional West is taking steps to operate as efficiently as possible, remain viable, and continue to serve our families, friends, and neighbors for years to come.

Even through this transition, great things are happening at Regional West. Recently, Tyson Lambertson shared his experience in the Regional West Emergency Department. It is a true testimony that when seconds count, Regional West is here to help our fellow neighbors. Click here to watch his story unfold.

The customer experience is also so important. Each of us can conduct business and purchase items anywhere we want, but consistent, quality customer service makes a difference. Vanessa Hornstein, CNMT, a technologist in Regional West’s Nuclear Medicine department, recently went above and beyond, providing exceptional customer service to make sure that our patients were assisted.

“It’s so rewarding to bring peace to my patients and help give them tools they can use for their treatment,” she said. You can read more here!

At Regional West, our physicians, providers, nurses, and employees work hard to provide exceptional patient care. We are dedicated to improving processes while enhancing the patient experience for those we serve.

Regional West’s Cancer Treatment Center invites cancer survivors and their families to a picnic celebrating survivors and their victories! We will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and water, so please bring a salad or dessert to share. If we experience inclement weather, we plan to host the picnic in Regional West Medical Center South Plaza, conference room one.

For more information, call the Cancer Treatment Center at 308-630-1348. We hope to see you there!
