2023 CAMA AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE NOMINATIONS

WILLIS AWARD FOR INNOVATION

City of St. Albert, AB

Population Between 20,001 and 100,000

City of St. Albert Strategic Framework

A quest for common good and delivery of value to communities and regions is at the heart of many municipal organizations. Challenges are often multiple and competing priorities, misalignment between plans, change initiatives, budget constraints and delivery of services.

At the City of St. Albert, Alberta, we use our Strategic Framework to guide our planning and decision-making practices. The Framework embodies a systems-design approach that promotes an organization-wide, collaborative culture focused on achieving key outcomes that come directly from our community and City Council.

Tied into a robust Council policy and planning framework, the Framework promotes systems thinking and encourages integrated decision-making to align strategic and business planning, budgeting, management and reporting practices and processes. Containing nine components, across five phases, the Framework enables better aligned financial and people resources to achieve the Community Vision and Pillars of Sustainability and City of St. Albert Council Strategic Plan while supporting accountability and transparency to the community. Together with Council’s Bylaws, Policies and Resolutions, the Framework provides direction to the CAO decision-making.

District of Squamish Inclusion Strategy - IDEAs in Action

The District of Squamish Inclusion Strategy – IDEAs in Action serves as a roadmap for how we prioritize and integrate diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility into the fabric and culture of our organization.

We recognize the increasing importance of creating workplaces that are inclusive, supportive, and prioritize psychological safety for staff.

We know that more than ever, job seekers and employees are seeking out workplaces that support their values, and that attracting, retaining, and growing strong talent requires an investment in how we think about our processes, systems, and organizational culture.

Our belief in creating IDEAs in Action was that if we focus on creating a more inclusive workplace, we will create the conditions for our staff and future hires to thrive and meet the growing demands of our community in a meaningful way.
