Municipal Update, December 2023
To help keep you informed of what is happening at Middlesex Centre we send out regular updates on our website and social media accounts, and through our newsletter.
Municipal Holiday Hours
The municipal office will close at 4:30pm on December 22, 2023, and reopen at 8:30am on January 2, 2024.

The Komoka Wellness Centre and the Ilderton Arena are closed December 25 and 26 and January 1. A special skating schedule is in place for December 23 to January 7, including daily free public skating!

Waste and Recycling Collection - Over the holidays, waste and recycling will be collected on your normal day except for those with Monday collection.

  • If your normal collection day is Christmas (Dec. 25), your waste and recycling will be collected on Saturday, Dec. 23.
  • If your normal collection day is New Year’s Day (Jan. 1), your waste and recycling will be collected on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Garbage and recycling will be collected as usual on Boxing Day.

Bluewater Recycling Association would like to remind you that wrapping paper, greeting cards and Christmas lights do not belong in your recycling bin. Please put them in your garbage.

Holiday Skating in Middlesex Centre

2024 Middlesex Centre Budget Approved
On December 20, Middlesex Centre Council approved the 2024 municipal budget. The budget responds to inflation and other financial pressures while allowing for needed infrastructure construction and repair. It supports Middlesex Centre’s long-term financial sustainability.

The 2024 budget totals $79.89 million and will result in a municipal property tax increase of 3.22%, or $83 per year for an average residential home with an assessed value of $400,000.

Mayor DeViet becomes Warden for Middlesex County

Congratulations to Mayor Aina DeViet for becoming Warden for the County of Middlesex. Over the next year, Warden DeViet will head county council in addition to her role as mayor of Middlesex Centre.

The Municipality of Middlesex Centre has been named one of the top 100 Most Livable Cities in Canada for 2023 by The Globe and Mail. Middlesex Centre ranked in the top 30 communities nationwide for community, economy, and education.

Glendon Drive construction anticipated for Spring 2024

At their Dec 6 meeting, Council received an update on the Glendon Drive roundabout and the Coldstream Road realignment projects from the County of Middlesex. Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2024.

Servicing & Transportation Master Plans Presented to Council

At a special meeting on Dec. 13, Council received presentations about the municipality’s Servicing and Transportation Master Plans. The plans will guide infrastructure development over the next 20 to 25 years.

Registration for Winter 2024 Programs Now Open
Looking for yoga, tai chi, youth indoor soccer and other recreation programs? View available programs and book online with our registration portal.
New Winter Rec Course: Introduction to Painting (55+)

Each week a local artist will instruct you step-by-step through an original piece of art and you will go home with a completed project. Participants will learn new techniques and will paint on different surfaces including paper, canvas, wood, rock, and glass using brushes, as well as with readily available household items. Supplies will be provided.

Locations: 
  • Mondays – Ilderton Community Centre (Ilderton Seniors Centre Program)
  • Tuesdays – Delaware Community Centre
  • Wednesdays – Komoka Community Centre
  • Thursdays – Bryanston Community Centre

Dates: Week of Jan. 8 to Mar. 25, 2024

Time (all locations): 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Cost: $100 + HST (10 classes)
Free Skates in January, February and March

Join us for FREE PUBLIC SKATING at the Komoka Wellness Centre and at the Ilderton Arena this winter. Please see the website for dates. These free skates are sponsored by the Komoka-Kilworth Optimist Club and the Bryanston Birr Optimist Club!

Winter Parking Reminder

There is no parking on municipal roads from 2:00 am to 7:00 am between Labour Day and Victoria Day. While this is particularly important in the winter to allow for snow clearing, this restriction applies at all times, even when there is no snow.
