Medicare Part D Annual Open Enrollment Period Help at Lapham Community Center

This is your once-a-year chance to re-evaluate and perhaps change your prescription drug plan. Your prescription needs may have changed, and the prescription drug companies take this opportunity to make significant changes to their rules, formularies and pricing. The plan that was best for you this year might not be best for you next year. The only way to know is to use Medicare’s Prescription Drug Plan Finder located online at Medicare.gov. Lapham's volunteer counselors will be happy to run this program for you free of charge. Lapham will be offering both remote and in-person appointments. Last year 40% of registrants changed plans with a total savings of over $166,000. Appointments available until December 7th. To register, call 203-594-3620.

Hello from Kate

November is the month of gratitude. We know this. We’ve experienced it. We’ve pondered those people, places and things for which we are grateful. Hopefully we have shared our thanks boldly and broadly. Some are great letter writers, some great orators, some great gifters. Others express it in their actions - a lingering hug, tending to a household chore without being asked. Regardless of where we fall on the spectrum, we tend to be more

acutely attuned to our words and actions now, than at other points in the calendar year. Afterall, it’s the month of Thanksgiving. We are conditioned for it. What we drift away from, though, is ourselves. Our attention becomes more focused on the people, events, and activities that get lumped into “the

holidays.” But I’d like to offer another approach. I’d like to see us bring care

and attention back to ourselves, so we don’t feel so completely and utterly depleted by the end of the year. Besides - what good are we, how grateful can we really be, if we aren’t taking good care of ourselves and appreciating our best qualities?

Easier said than done, right? To that I will say, I get it, it might not feel easy, but it is simple: Just take care of yourself. Get the vaccines that your doctor advises you to get. Get your Medicare enrollment sorted out (Lapham has appointments for this!), ask Staying Put for rides. Ask the pharmacy to customize your prescriptions for ease of dosing (New Canaan Pharmacy does this!). Make sure the lightbulbs in your home are all working. Ask Staying Put to change any that need changing. Listen to your favorite piece of music. Treat yourself to the new book you've been wanting to read. Show gratitude to the wonderful person you are. Seriously. Take an extra moment to acknowledge a quality you love about yourself. Call Staying Put if you need a reminder! We think you’re amazing. And this year, I can say with total confidence that I am grateful for each of you, and for Staying Put being a fixture in all of our lives.
