A Message From Fr. David
When prayer does not work

Dear Friends,

Last week I first wrote about Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City as a flickering light of abiding hope and healing amidst the devastations in Israel and Gaza. The Arab Hospital was founded by Anglican missionaries in 1882 in the ancient city of Gaza in the region then simply known as Palestine. In the 1960s it was briefly administered by Baptists before becoming an Anglican mission again of the Diocese in Jerusalem in 1980 with considerable support from the Episcopal Church ever since. A reminder. . .
For those who wish to participate in the three days of prayer called for by the Archbishop of Jerusalem, the Saint James Chapel will continue to be open for prayer and candle lighting from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Thursday and Friday.

Women's Gathering
In their next session, Women's Gathering will discuss Stretch Out Your Hand, Exploring Healing Prayer by Tilda Norberg and Robert D. Webber. A book on Christian healing prayer, Stretch Out Your Hand offers practical ways for us to consider the varieties of God's healing love for individuals, institutions, and communities while providing an honest examination of the many difficult questions about prayer and the role of faith in healing.

Through exercises and stories, the authors reintroduce readers to Jesus' healing ministry and to his vision of the church as a healing community. Click here to email Lorraine Rollo for the Zoom link.

Forum Hour: Texts of Terror
In the parish house forum room
and via Zoom

God sent the prophet Samuel to anoint Saul son of Kish to be the first king of Israel, to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines. But at the end of his life, Samuel came back from Sheol to tell Saul that God had become his enemy, and that he and his sons would be handed over to the Philistines to be killed.

What happened to make God repent of having called Saul to be the king of Israel? And what would it be like to be told that the God who had called you to be king had now become your enemy? Join us this Sunday as we explore the tragic life and death of Israel's first king in our continuing exploration of the "texts of terror" in Scripture. Click here to join forum via Zoom.

Dinner for a Difference!
An event with Church World Service

Join fellow parishioners and our friends from Church World Service for an evening of Haitian cuisine and story telling by Herve Dorsainvil, an acclaimed journalist in his native Haiti until political unrest forced him to flee the country in 2018.

On November 11th, Herve and his wife Marie will serve a delicious Haitian meal to attendees, and Herve will discuss his life as a prominent reporter in Haiti and the way he and his family have rebuilt their lives since coming to Lancaster. The evening will conclude with practical ways to get involved so we can help make a difference!

Sponsored by ALERT

Did you know that socks are one of the most needed but least donated article of clothing for the homeless? Winter's snow, ice and freezing temperatures will be here soon, and the homeless men and women throughout Lancaster County will need new socks to help keep their feet warm and dry.

This Sunday through November 12th, please drop off new socks (men's and women's) along with gently used hats and gloves. Look for the donation box in the Narthex!
