The Christmas Bride in Concert

Rehearses in Portland for Shows in

Freeport, Portland, and Boothbay Harbor!

The Christmas Bride in Concert focuses on the singing, with narration and dialogue to bridge the songs. The actors are hard at work on their roles! (Pictured below: Alan McLucas as Dr. Jeddler and Kelly Caufield as Clemency learn their music for the lively score of the show)

On a stage that will be lightly decorated with simple Christmas cheer, eleven singer-actors at music stands will be accompanied by a three piece band of piano, cello, and woodwinds. (Pictured below: Director Al D'Andrea and musical director Betty McIntyre put the actors through their paces)

Together, the ensemble will create the magic of Christmas - in July - by portraying eighteen characters straight out of Dickens' Victorian England, in a musical romance tale that features a beautiful musical theater score. (Pictured below: The entire cast of eleven, some of whom portray multiple characters)

The format for this costumed presentation, a musical performed as a concert, has been used with great success for other shows such as the wildly popular musical theater concerts at City Center in New York. (Pictured below: Aaron Engebreth studies his lead role of Michael Warden as costumer Brittney Cacace-Shorthill consults with assistant Allegra Cacace-Shortill)

Details on The Christmas Bride in Concert show dates and times are below. Tickets are only $20 for all seats and the show is suitable for all ages. (Lead actress Emily Bartley works on a dramatic moment in the role of Marion)

Please join us - we can't wait to see you for some great THEATER MADE IN MAINE! (Pictured below: Veteran Snowlion Rep performer Mary Johnston Letellier works to embody her warm, charming Dickensian character of Grace)

The 'Pink Scare' Takes Down Smith College Professors in a New Play by Patricia Mew

Snowlion Rep's PlayLab is workshopping a new play by longtime member Pat Mew and will present a public reading on July 30 at 7 pm at the Mad Horse Theater in South Portland.

In 1960, on the heels of the Red Scare initiated by Senator Joseph McCarthy, renowned Massachusetts women's college Smith became the focus of a nationwide hunt for certain 'undesirables.' The scandal that followed the discovery of damning erotic material enveloped three professors, and the college where they taught, in a story of betrayal, moral ambiguity, and professional disgrace that rocked the academic world and forced the accused to grapple with what, exactly, is the right thing to do.

Acting Classes are Back!

Snowlion Rep's comprehensive acting curriculum - FIVE different aspects of the actor's training that present in rotation - is commencing once more, starting with ACTION AND OBJECTIVE: The Heart of Acting Technique,

an in-depth look at two of the most important elements of the

actors work in creating a role to play.

Teacher Al D’Andrea and his students will use a variety of games, exercises, improvisations, and scene work to explore "what the character wants" (objective) and "what the character does to get what s/he wants" (action). Many influences on Action and Objective will be explored, including given circumstances, location, character, emotion, and justification. Much of the work will be based on Al's studies with stage legend Stella Adler.

The workshop is ideal for experienced actors who seek to master their understanding and use of these central elements of stagecraft. Beginning actors will receive a strong foundation in these critical elements of performance, often not emphasized in traditional acting classes. The class is open to all ages 16 and above.
