Fab Lab Miami
Fab Lab Miami aims to inspire and nurture the pursuit of coursework and careers in STEAM through a maker-driven, hands-on experience with digital fabrication and STEAM activities. Located in the heart of Liberty City at the Belafonte TACOLCY Center, Fab Lab Miami’s makerspace offers engaging programming in Miami’s urban core so that youth can play, create, learn, mentor and invent.
Fab Lab Miami joined forces with Miami Dade College's Meek Entrepreneurial Center over the past summer, hosting a week-long architecture workshop for their Curious Minds STEM Academy. The goal was to impart architectural knowledge to high school students using 3D modeling software and digital fabrication tools. By seamlessly integrating contemporary technology such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and computer-aided design (CAD) software into the curriculum, students embarked on a hands-on and creative journey into the world of architectural design. This immersive experience enabled them to bring their architectural concepts to life while honing their problem-solving and technical skills, resulting in a deeper understanding of architecture. It also introduced these students to the evolving demands of the 21st-century workforce, where digital fabrication significantly shapes the architectural and design industries.
