Before you read all of the great information in our Summer Newsletter, I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself as your newly elected and installed Vice President of the Trade and Industrial (T&I) Education Division of ACTE. My name is Dr. Bart Taylor, and I come to you with over 24 years of experience in career and technical education (CTE) and nonprofit organizations. You will see a lot of “Howdys” from me because I am your elected representative from the Lone Star State, Texas. My experience ranges from teaching Information Technology and Cybersecurity in the high school classroom to teaching pre-service teachers at the university level. Additionally, I have worked in the CTE amd career and technical student organization (CTSO) nonprofit world during my tenure in education, where I helped to cultivate a community of leadership and excellence in CTE.
I look forward to serving the nation as your T&I Vice President, and I hope to share my passion for CTE, as well as to showcase all of the opportunities for you here in ACTE.
Whether your school is already back in session or you're preparing for the 2023-2024 school year, I would like to say “Welcome Back to School.” I want to encourage our members to look at the tools, resources, and connections that you have as an ACTE member and not to forget about the empowerment that you and your students can obtain through your CTSOs.
The Trade and Industrial Education Division needs your help. We are currently looking for a representative from Region V to serve on our T&I policy committee; this is the group that helps make decisions about our division’s resources and opportunities. If you are looking for an opportunity to grow in your leadership capacity in CTE, this is a great way to gain some experience at the national level.
Additionally, we are looking for some classroom stories to spotlight in our T&I newsletter. If you have stories of classroom success, student success, teacher success, community service success, or even success from industry or business partnerships, we want to hear about them. We want to showcase your stories and tell our stakeholders about the great things happening in CTE across the country. If you are interested in any of these opportunities to volunteer your talents or your stories, please email me directly at btaylor@tamu.edu.
Thank you for your commitment to our CTE students, to your CTE programs, and to the community and family that surround you and your schools. To touch a mind is a privilege; therefore, as educators, we must serve through commitment, professional development, enthusiasm, and zeal. To touch a heart is forever; therefore, as educators, we must remember to act with passion, love, caring, and acceptance.
