What To Do Before Finals - The Fool-Proof Way to Study Without the Stress

With summer courses being compacted into 8 weeks instead of the usual 16 one typically gets in a full semester, finals can sometimes seem that much more daunting. Former Dolphin blogger, Saul Rubin, has you covered though.

As he puts it, "You’ve studied your butt off, but you think your brain can handle a bit more knowledge; how do you study, and know to stop studying, effectively?" Check out his blog for a multitude of tips and techniques for preparing yourself for finals - not just academically, but with your physical and mental health in mind, too.

Last Bit of Summer

Weekend Getaways

Heading back to school in the fall? There're just a few short weekends left to get in some fun, so why not take a quick weekend trip? If you're a local Dolphin living here in Southern California, consider these few ideas in each direction:

  1. South: Julian. Not only do you pass the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on the way, but you'll also get a charming historic gold rush town ambiance, delicious apple pies, and scenic mountain views.
  2. North: Solvang. You can't go wrong with enchanting Danish-inspired architecture, unique shops, and delicious bakeries, all nestled in the heart of Santa Barbara wine country.
  3. East: Calico. Even if it's just a stop on your way to Vegas, check out the well-preserved ghost town history, fascinating mining heritage, and immersive Old West atmosphere.
  4. West: Channel Islands. More than just Catalina, check out some of the other islands in the chain for unique hiking trails, stunning wildlife, and the 2nd largest sea cave in North America.

Dolphins In the Wild:

California Community Colleges 11th Veterans Symposium

This year marked the California Community Colleges 11th Veterans Symposium bringing together faculty, administrators, and staff from across the system, California State University and the University of California working to support student veterans and military-affiliated students. The conference offered an opportunity to share and learn information and showcase best practices in student Veterans Centers from across the state. Day one featured a Student Veteran panel in which Coastline Student Veteran Jon Reuker participated.

Day two featured a breakout session that showcased Coastline College’s Hope Heroes program. Hope Heroes is a program that assists incarcerated Veterans with resources, school supplies, and book vouchers, helping them to succeed in their education goals as well as offering support to reintegrate back into the community upon release.
