New Laws Regarding Parental Consent Information for the 2023-2024 School Year

Deviation from Legal Name Consent

Per Rule 6A-1.0955(8)(m), F.A.C., Education Records, school districts are required to develop a form to obtain parental consent to use any deviation or nickname from the child’s legal name in school.

If you would like for your child to be able to use a name aside from their legal given name on any of our campuses, we will ask for you to complete the consent form titled “Parental Authorization for Deviation from Student’s Legal Name Form” which will be found in your Skyward Family Access. Please include all variations that are approved on your form.

Parental Consent-School Sponsored Events, Activities or Supplemental Programs

SCPS has developed a plan to adhere to the requirements set forth by the Florida Department of Education’s Board Rule 6A-10.089, Section (5) which requires parent or guardian notification and permission forms for all school-sponsored events, activities, and supplemental programs.

Over the next few days, weeks, and months, teachers, sponsors, and administrators will be sending notification and permission forms for any school-sponsored events, activities, or supplemental programs your child plans to attend. Please keep your eye out for these forms so that your child is able to participate.

What's Cool in Our Schools

Serious Scientific Fun at Lawton Elementary

Ms. Lindo's 4th graders at T.W. Lawton Elementary School used the scientific process to experiment with different types of soda and Mentos.

What a fabulous way to explore not only chemical reactions, but also to test theories and analyze your hypothesis.

Winter Springs Elementary Hosts a Prestigious Guest

5th graders at Winter Springs Elementary had a very special visitor this week!

Teddy Roosevelt stopped by their classrooms to collaborate with students and answer any questions after they read “Camping with the President” in their ELA classes.

What a clever way to bring history to life!

Hamilton Elementary Hosts Place Value Relay Race

Fourth grade innovators at Hamilton Elementary School of Engineering and Technology engaged in a place value relay in math.

Students got numbers in word form and as a team had to write the number in a place value chart, standard form, expanded form, model it, and then place it in order on the number line by comparing it to the other numbers!

Now that is bringing math learning to life!

Lake Brantley High's Principal Becomes a Human Sundae

Students at Lake Brantley High experienced a different type of experiment...turning their Princpal, Mr.Blasewitz, into an ice cream sundae.

The Student Government Association (SGA) then gave out free ice cream sandwiches!

Now that is one sweet treat!
