SAINT MARK'S MISSION, MINISTRY & OUTREACH

Widening the Welcome With Open & Generous Hearts

"Let us build a house where love can dwell

And all can safely live,

A place where saints and children tell

How hearts learn to forgive."

~"All Are Welcome," Gather Hymnal #753

This past summer, St. Mark’s once again engaged in a Summer of Conversation. It was moving to see how joyfully people embraced this practice of building relationships that in turn build up the community of faith. Over the past few months St. Mark’s has welcomed many new members into our community of faith. As we reflect on the blessings of a faith community and the depth of relationships that nurture and support us, we ask that you consider your financial support for the work of God through the ministry of St. Mark’s.

Scripture invites us to prayerfully consider all that we have been given by God, and then to “decide in our hearts” what the Spirit is calling us to give. The spiritual journey is about continually growing in faith and trusting in the Lord to be our strength and our security. The tithe is a goal based on the witness of Scripture. It is not meant as a harsh requirement nor as a source of shame or guilt. It is God’s gracious invitation to join our resources to God’s work in the world as an act of thanksgiving and worship. This year, we ask each person who calls St. Mark’s their church home to growth through the practice of stewardship.

Like any “practice,” stewardship implies an intentional pattern of action that we repeat on a regular basis over a period of time. A new pattern of action may seem difficult at first, but as you continue to practice, you notice it beginning to feel easier and more natural. Practice transforms us. Over time, our stewardship practice, giving a portion of all that God has given us back to God for use in ministry shapes us to be more grateful, more trusting, more generous, and more joyful people. This how we Widen the Welcome at St. Mark’s and grow into people with Open and Generous Hearts.

Important note: We do not send out Pledge Cards until the last week of October. Please take the next couple of weeks to prayerfully discern the gifts and treasure your household is willing and able to give in the year ahead.
