November: The Hurdles (Trouble)

Theme Song: Day by Day

Theme Verse: 2 Corinthians 4:16 & 17 "Therefore we do not lose heart. Through outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all."

Homework Club:

Will not be meeting on November 7 and 9 due to early dismissals.

Moms in Prayer:

Moms, we have been give a very special privilege and opportunity to pray for our children right here and now. We are blessed to be able to pray without hesitation or fear. If you are able, please come to the MIP meeting on MONDAY mornings from 8:30-9:30am in the OCCS Art Room.

Our children are gifts from God's hands. Please come and pray for them and witness God's power as they fulfill the plan and purpose that God has prepared for them. It is an immeasurable blessing to sit shoulder to shoulder with another mom and agree together in prayer over her children.

Questions - please contact Monique Cooley at mocooley124@gmail.com

K-4 Fall Music Concert:

The K-4 students will be singing and playing and PRAISING God on November 30, at 7:00 pm in the OCCS gym. This will be a night of showcasing some of the fun things we do in music class for parents, grandparents and friends. We are so thankful for the wonderful music facilities we have been blessed with and are hoping that others at OCCS will soon be blessed with needed additions, too. Because we want to pay it forward, the K-4 kids are asking for a donation, big or small, to the OCCS building project, in lieu of an offering for the music department that evening.

We are looking forward to celebrating "All Things Bright and Beautiful" with you on November 30!

OCCS Library Book Fair:

We are hosting a Book Fair during Parent-Teacher Conferences this year. We're excited to provide an opportunity for families to purchase books all while supporting our school library.

When: Monday, November 6-Thursday, November 9. Stop in after school or while you're here for P/T Conferences in the music room.

  • Monday & Wednesday: 3:30-6:30pm
  • Tuesday & Thursday: 1:30-6:30pm

There will also be an online book fair open until November 11. Use the link to access the book fair: https://i55bookfairs.com/ref/IA004/. Use the code: FREE50IA004 for free shipping for orders over $50.

Book Fair Volunteers Wanted: We are looking for volunteers to help out at the book fair on Monday through Thursday. If you are willing to help out for a few hours please sign up here. If you have questions contact Jen Wielenga at jwielenga@occhristian.pvt.k12.ia.us.

NICSTO Donations:

Northwest Iowa Christian School Tuition Organization (NICSTO) is receiving contributions to provide tuition assistance to those who qualify. Anyone who contributes will receive a 75% tax credit up to the total amount of Iowa income tax that he/she pays. For example, if you donate $2,000 to NICSTO, your state income tax liability will be reduced by $1500 while NICSTO uses your contribution to help qualified students attend a Christian school. Our school still needs close to $240,000 before the end of the year.

We encourage you to participate AND let others who live in the state of Iowa know about it. This is also a great benefit to those in their upper 60s and 70s who wish to bless others and receive the tax credit. It’s a win-win situation, for those who give and to those who receive! What a privilege to be able to use some of our state tax dollars for non-public education! You may also donate non-cash items such as grain, stocks and securities. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Van Velzen at 712-348-6106 (NICSTO Treasurer) or Mr. Alons at 737-2274 or stop by the school office. The donation forms are also available on the school website under "Donate Now", "Support Us", then "NICSTO Contribution Form.”

Tiger Ambush: Yard Sign Fundraiser:

Get ready for a wild and exciting fundraising event like no other – Tiger Ambush!

Here's how it works:

We have created yard signs to raise excitement and support for the Project Engage: Phase 23 building project, but here's the twist: these signs aren't meant for your own yard! Instead, participants can pay to have these signs placed on the lawns of their friends, family, or unsuspecting neighbors.

For $10, you can have the signs placed on someone's yard for 24 hours.

For $20, you can place the signs AND find out who placed them in your yard.

For $50, you can place the signs, find out who placed them in your yard, AND ensure they never return back to you!

So, join the Tiger Ambush by sending a Venmo to @occsfundraising or by stopping by the school office and let the fun begin! Follow along on Facebook and Instagram to see where the Ambush will show up next!
