Kaitlyn Tysinger

Brief Bio

My name is Kaitlyn Tysinger (Faculty, Esthetics). I am born and raised in Tyro, North Carolina. I am an licensed esthetician and I took Esthetics here at Davidson-Davie and was an Esthetics Instructor at Durham Tech. I have been teaching here at DDCC for 2 years now!

Five Things to Know

  1. Travel: I would love to visit Italy one day!
  2. Music & Books: I love to listen to Gospel music the most and my favorite books to read are historical fiction!
  3. Food: This is a hard one because I love to explore with food and have those experiences! But I would have to say Mexican food and Mac cheese are my go-to foods!
  4. Streaming Shows & Movie: Recently I have been rewatching The Office and Parks and Rec. One of my favorite movies to watch on repeat is Sense and Sensibility the 1995 version!
  5. Joyful Experience: An experience that gave me joy would be spending time with my family or with my church and just being there with my people!

Passport Event Ideas Needed

Passport book

By Sarah Wright

We are in the midst of planning Passport Events for Spring 2024. Please reach out and let me know of Passport Events you may want to lead/present, or if you have an idea about an event, but need help bringing the idea into full focus, then please reach out and we can collaborate. We do have the 2nd 8-weeks of this semester planned; however, there is still time to add a few events here and there. Let me know if there are any questions or ideas via sarah_wright@davidsondavie.edu.

Digital Accessibility: Document Headings, Part 3

By Kendra Guffey

How to Use Headings in Microsoft Word

Word home tab showing headings

Did you know you can change text in Word to a heading by just clicking a button on the Home tab? With just a few more steps, you can customize the headings to make them accessible.

How To:

  • Highlight the text you want to make Heading 2. Adjust the formatting to something appropriate, such as Arial size 16.
  • Right click where it says Heading 2 at the top and select “Update Heading 2 to Match Selection.” This means if you use Heading 2 again, it will now be formatted the same way in your document.

Tip:

If you right click on Heading 2 again, you can change the formatting for all new documents you create. This time select "Modify." Change the formatting to something appropriate. Go to the bottom of the popup box and select “Automatically update” and “new documents based on this template.” Click OK.

Bonus Tip:

Tired of changing the normal font size from 11 to 12 every single time you create a new document? Change the "Normal" and "No Spacing" to size 12 through the "Modify" menu. Size 11 font is a common default that is not accessible.

Assigning Grades to Non-Submitters

By Gretchen Benton

In Moodle version 4.1, it can be difficult to find the option needed to Bulk Insert Grades. This helpful feature allows you to quickly assign multiple similar grades at once. Whether you are assigning a bunch of one hundreds for in-course participation grades or zeros for students who didn’t submit an assignment, this process will help save you lots of time!

How to Bulk Insert Grades

  1. Visit your course and click ‘Grades’
  2. In the ‘Grader Report’ view, scroll over to find the column for the grade item where you want to insert grades
  3. Click the pencil icon at the top of the column you want to enter “Single view” for that grade item
  4. Make sure Edit Mode is turned on (top right corner of the screen)
  5. Select ‘Actions’ (on the right side of the grading menu)
  6. Then select ‘Bulk insert grades’
  7. Depending on your goals, choose ‘All grades’ or ‘Empty grades’ and then assign a point value.
  8. When you are finished click ‘Save’. It will immediately assign and calculate these new grades. You do not need to click ‘Save’ again at the bottom of the single view page.
