Educational advocacy is a partnership that ensures children receive the proper education. Specifically, educational advocacy could include 504 plans, IEP’s (Individualized Education Program), ARD’s (Admission, Review, Dismissal), conferences with teachers and administration. It is developing goals for both home and school to prepare the child for success, while reviewing individual recommendations on accommodations and modifications. Educational advocacy talks with the kids and actively listens to them to learn what they need.

"My strong desire is to make a positive impact on the lives of children in Tarrant County, my commitment to promoting and achieving social justice, my passion for advocacy, and my belief in the importance of supporting those who need it most is what brought me to CASA." Hear more from Jaycee

"Watching my CASA kids relax and open up when they realize they are being seen and heard. My CASA kids have been in foster care for a few years, and I realized early on that I was going to be that one constant person in this chapter of their lives. I appreciate them for allowing me into their life." Meet Orpha.

"My heart overflows with gratitude as I think about our volunteers at CASA. As a board member, I realize that the heartbeat of our organization is the volunteers. Thank you advocates for loving our children in need in our community. I smile so big just thinking of you holding the hands of a child and providing each one the comfort of knowing they are loved, protected and worthy." Read more.

Denee Borchardt is working to expand the courts’ concept of family to help foster children. “Kids need to be with their families unless it’s just absolutely not possible,” said Borchardt, Program Director at Court Appointed Special Advocates of Tarrant County. With that mission in mind, she has led the CASA of Tarrant County to adopt a pilot program that creatively connects a child with family members like grandparents or close kinships such as a neighbor, a favorite teacher or any distant relatives. The initiative is called Collaborative Family Engagement.

Meet CASA volunteer Barbara, who was sworn in in 2019. She accepted a sibling case with 4 children with very few placement options.

Barbara worked on this case tirelessly for 4 years, and the last 3 with her Child Advocacy Specialist Mayra.

After 4 years, it was decided that the family was in a good place and the family settled. It was time for Barbara to retire.

Barbara plans to keep in touch with the family in a non-CASA Role.

Barbara recently brought flowers to Mayra and thanked her for making her volunteer experience a great one.

What a blast! Our Back-to-School Party with OCOK was a huge success!

Over 300 youth, foster parents, and siblings came last week to collect school supplies, gather information on services available, and enjoy a meal provided by the Texas Chisholm Trail Crime Prevention Association (TCTCPA) and Diamond Wishes Childrens Charity. We are so thankful for our many community partners who stepped up to provide school supplies, offer resources, and help put on this incredible event!

Meet Cameron

"I am pursuing my BSW Social Work degree from Texas Christian University. I am originally from Dallas, TX but have been living in Fort Worth the past four years. I am so excited to intern at CASA— I really believe in CASA’s mission of advocating and giving a voice to children in foster care and I am glad that I get to expand my education at this organization."

Meet Jaden

"Hi! My name is Jaden Moore! I am a junior at Texas Christian University studying psychology in the hope of being a family therapist with a focus on abusive and neglectful households. I was born and raised in Orange County, California with two older siblings and wonderful parents. I am a member of Texas Delta Pi Beta Phi at TCU, serving as their Vice President of Community Relations. I have always strived to love the people who don't have many people loving them. I am honored and ecstatic about this internship and look forward to gaining knowledge and experience from this amazing organization!"
