"Inspiring students to love God, their Catholic faith and learning"

Monday, October 2nd through Friday, October 6th grades 3-8 will take the Iowa Assessment. There are a number of ways you can support your child before and after testing. It is important to remember the following points to ensure that your child is functioning at full capacity:

  • Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep.
  • Wake up at a good time so as not to be rushed.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast.
  • Arrive on time to school.
  • Stay home if you feel sick (make-ups will take place the following week).
  • Encourage your student(s) to do their best, but don't stress.
  • Pray with your child(ren) in confidence, and remind him/her that testing is just one part of their total education
  • Please contact Mrs. Garner at 636-8922 ext 327 if you have questions.

Monday, October 2nd- Thursday, October 5th students are allowed to wear Spirit Wear with uniform bottoms. Friday, October 6th will be a dress down day for all in celebration of completing testing week! Please avoid scheduling appointments during testing week.

The Central Missouri Honor Flight is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all of their sacrifices. The group transports our heroes from throughout Central Missouri to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials at no cost to them. The Central Missouri Honor Flight is funded by donations from individuals, organizations and businesses.

St. Peter Catholic School will be raising funds to help send veterans on the next Honor Flight with the purchase of a special spirit wear shirt. A portion of each shirt sold will be donated to the Central Missouri Honor Flight on Veterans Day. This spirit wear shirt is not just for St. Peter Catholic School families; please feel free to share the link with friends and family. The order deadline is October 20th in hopes that shirts will be available to wear for Veterans Day, November 11th.

After School Care Help Needed:

After School Care is looking to hire aides for the 2023-2024 school year. Must be high school age as of August 1st and wanting to work with kids. If interested please fill out an application at diojeffcity.org. For questions, send an email to Ms. Betsy at [email protected].

St. Peter Catholic School Help Needed:

St. Peter is still looking for a Classroom Aide 7:25-4PM M-F, and subs for the school year. If you are interested or know someone who would be a great fit, please encourage them to apply on the Diocsean website (HERE) and email Gayle Trachsel, Principal [email protected].

Registration is now open for winter activities: archery 4-8 graders, basketball 5-8 graders. Please register your child by October 6th if they are interested in archery or basketball. Due to the large number of participants for both archery and basketball, I will NOT be accepting registrations after October 6th.  Please make sure you register by the deadline. If you have already registered your child for archery or basketball, please do not register again.

Archery typically tends to be a high participation activity and needs several coaches for safety reasons. If we do not have enough parent help, there is a chance some students may not be able to participate in archery. If you are interested in helping with Archery, please let me know. I can put you in contact with one of the current Archery coaches.

Attached are the links to register for archery and basketball and to be a coach or assistant coach for the 2023-2024 academic school year. The links will also be found on the St. Peter school website under the Athletics tab, then click on Athletic forms. The links will also be in the newsletter this week.

Information regarding the season, placement, etc. for individual sports can be found on the sports pages on the St. Peter website under the Athletics tab.

The only paperwork required to be sent to Mrs. Bell is a copy of a current physical exam form. The MSHSAA physical exam form can be found on the St. Peter website under the Athletics tab, and is available on the MSHSAA website as well. Mrs. Bell must have a current physical on file before the student can participate in practices and games. Students participating in basketball and archery will need to have a current physical on file with Mrs. Bell.

As always, we are looking to add new members to the St. Peter Athletic Committee. The Committee is a sub-committee of the School Advisory Board and meets monthly. The AC is responsible for supervision as well for athletic events hosted by St. Peter. If you have questions or would like to know more about the responsibilities of a AC member, or you are interested in becoming a member please contact Mrs. Bell ([email protected]).

Meet Our Staff

Hello Saints! My name is Christa Vizner, and I serve as the full-time sub here at St. Peter. I have been teaching for over 20 years, full-time, part-time or sub, depending on where God has led me. I have a BS in Education from MU and a Master of Theological Studies from the University of Dallas. I have taught high school Health, PE, Theology, and even Environmental Science. At the junior high level, I have taught Social Studies on two separate occasions. I have been a long term sub for junior high and second grade. I was also a Certified Athletic Trainer for many years before being a stay-at-home mom.

I grew up in St. Peter’s parish and attended school here (maiden name Haake). I met and married my husband, John, as he was serving on the USS Jefferson City nuclear submarine. He is originally from Kansas. We celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary this summer. Together we have three grown children, two daughters and a son. We have lived in California, Kansas and Texas before amazingly landing here in JCMO. I am truly enjoying my role here at St. Peter as I get to spend time with all different grade levels, and I feel blessed to be able to support our teachers and staff in any way.

FYI In 2007, I lost my hearing, and I am completely deaf. I was blessed with the miracle of cochlear implants that allow me to hear. So, if your student says I have computers on my ears, that’s usually how I explain it to them. God is good all the time!

Living our Faith Through Service

Service is a public expression of our faith. It’s how we express our belief in God and live out Jesus’s teachings. With this month’s podcast, we conclude our four-part series with Fr. Stephen Jones about the Four Pillars of Stewardship — focusing on the concept of service.

This series is designed to help us deepen our understanding of the spirituality of stewardship as we approach the Catholic Stewardship Renewal in October.

Catholic Stewardship Renewal/Time and Talent Form

TO BE AN “ACTIVE” CATHOLIC STEWARD MEANS:

  • To Pray: that is, attend Mass faithfully in the parish on weekends and Holy Days.
  • To Participate: that is, to use one’s time and talents to strengthen the parish community and advance the Gospel.
  • To Sacrificially Give: that is, pledge and remain current on a tithe of financial first fruits to support the life and ministries of the parish. The goal is 8% to the parish and 2% to other worthy charities.
