Additional Pride Neckers!
As we had a lot of interest regarding the Pride neckers, Council has ordered another batch! In light of celebrating the success, we will be covering some of the cost again. They will be $6 each and the cost (plus shipping if applicable), will be billed to the group. There are limited quantities of both youth and adult sizes so it will be first come, first served.

Scoutcraft update - Winter Skills coming!
Wow! We had a great training weekend at Camp Sheldrick, Sept. 15-17, for our annual Scoutcraft 1&2 course. The weather was perfect, the program was jam-packed, and the training team was very well received. It was our biggest outdoor skills course yet with 37 participants!!! We had scouters from Montreal to London, and a couple of Guiders too. It was so much fun meeting scouters from all sections and experience, fairly even representation of male and female scouters, great information, great discussions, and good practical sessions. Scouters were in patrols and got to know each other over the course of the weekend. Lots to be excited for in the coming scouting year. We met our new Council Commissioner, Leo Caisse, who came for Saturday morning and "worked" the crowd getting to know what they do and what they need. He gave us encouragement and left encouraged by what he saw. Many thanks to Eric Hansen and his team for the ongoing prep and improvements to Camp Sheldrick, great support.
For many, this was their first formal in-person training experience and they are hungry for more! On that note, SAVE THE DATE for our annual WINTER OUTDOOR SKILLS Course, to be confirmed, January 5-7, 2024. Watch for details in November.

Jamboree of the Air / Jamboree on the Internet
JOTA-JOTI is an international jamboree taking place around the world simultaneously October 21 and 22. It is organized by WOSM, the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Scouts from all over the world communicate over the Air on amateur radio and over the Internet using a variety of technologies. The Scouts Canada Museum will be hosting an advanced technology setup specifically for this event. There are loads of different ways to communicate, including text-based chat, voice chat, video chat, emails, blogs, and social media networks. JOTA-JOTI allows you to meet Scouts from around the world and to find out more about their culture and scouting life. https://www.jotajoti.info/
This is exciting news for Scout Groups in the Ottawa area. The National Office (1345 Baseline Rd) National Museum of Scouting, home of Amateur Radio Station VE3SHQ will be hosting a wide variety of activities from 10am to 4pm Saturday October 21 and Sunday 22, 2023. There will be licensed Amateur Radio Scouters on hand to help get youth on the air for JOTA. The radio setup is enhanced over previous years and this will make talking to remote Scouts even better.
This year we have added additional program activities, including computers for JOTI access, a Museum Treasure Hunt featuring different challenge levels from Beavers to Venturers. Participate in a quest and explore our collection with via games and other activities. JOTA/JOTI is all about communicating and that includes some other communications technologies to learn about and try. Advanced Registration details will be provided in the next issue of the Trail Guide. In the meantime, if you wanted to learn something about a Scout from far away, what three questions would you ask them? For more information, contact Scouts Canada Museum via email: museum@scouts.ca

BP Guild
The 7th BP Guild (Bytown) is growing and accepting new members. It’s ideal for Scouters who want to stay involved, but don’t have the time or energy to be active with the youth. If you have left Scouting, but would like to enjoy the fellowship in a relaxed environment, you are welcome to join us as well. We do welcome active leaders as well.
The Guild meets monthly from September to June at Scout HQ in Ottawa. We help out the Scouts Canada National Museum, and are looking to plan new activities for the future. We have members with ages ranging from 26 to 90; you must be 18 or older to join.
