Happy Summer Solstice!

The Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy (TUE) Committee has scheduled separate House and Senate hearings on Wednesday, June 28th that will include the NoToxicBiomass Campaign's two priority bills!

Please sign up to testify and/or submit written comments in support of these bills:

  • S.2136/H.3210 closes the loophole in the new MLP greenhouse gas emissions standard that counts biomass as “non-carbon emitting” energy
  • S.2137/H.3211 ends subsidies for commercial-scale wood heating systems through Massachusetts’ alternative portfolio standard (APS)

The deadlines for signing up to speak are:

Go here to sign up to speak.  10 am (House) and 1 pm (Senate).

The hearings will be held on Wednesday, June 28th at 10 am (House) and 1 pm (Senate). You can testify in person or virtually, and/or submit written comments. Written testimony is due June 30th.

Talking points and more information on how to testify are at the NoToxicBiomass website.

Other actions you can take are:
  • Ask your state reps to cosponsor the bills
  • Sign on to a group letter to TUE supporting the bills (organizations only)

As you know, last year our campaign succeeded in stopping subsidies for wood-burning power plants in Massachusetts’ renewable energy portfolio standard (RPS). Now it’s time to finish the job and stop subsidizing burning wood for energy in Massachusetts’ other clean energy programs!

With your help, Massachusetts can continue to be a leader in rejecting the false climate solution of burning our forests for energy.

We have a comment guide with some key talking points on the issues and instructions on how to file a comment. Please feel free to use these, but please don’t copy and paste large portions of text. If FERC recognizes a central source for comments, they will combine verbatim copies into one comment.
Remember, it's Docket No. AD22-9-000
