Award win for Choose Pharmacy team

The work of the Choose Pharmacy team at Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) has been recognised at the Antibiotic Guardian Awards.

In collaboration with Cardiff University, the team won the Diagnostic Stewardship Award for their evaluation of a sore throat test and treat (STTT) service in community pharmacies.

STTT is a free service provided by over 134 community pharmacies in Wales. People can get advice about their symptoms, receive an assessment and if necessary a throat swab, also known as a point of care test (POCT). Pharmacists can then offer the right treatment, which may include antibiotics or pain relief.

First two digital community pharmacy system suppliers awarded funding to develop an electronic prescription service in Wales

The Community Pharmacy System Innovation Fund, set up to support the delivery of an electronic prescription service (EPS) in Wales, has made its first award of grants to two digital community pharmacy system suppliers.

The grants will help suppliers to develop their systems to use an electronic prescription service and receive prescriptions digitally instead of on paper. It will also support the suppliers to introduce innovative changes to their systems that will result in paperless dispensing and integration with the new NHS Wales app when it is launched.

Diabetes consultation note changing landscape for diabetes patients

An electronic record designed specifically for diabetes patients is going from strength to strength. Over 6,000 Diabetes consultation notes (DCN) are created each month and more than 150,000 DCNs have been created since it was launched in 2019.

The DCN provides real time access to all diabetes care information on a single platform within the Welsh Clinical Portal. It improves quality and safety of care by reducing the duplications of tests, treatment and appointments, and allows quicker access to data for all health care professionals.

The HSJ Awards are an esteemed accolade of healthcare service excellence in the UK, shining a light on the outstanding efforts and achievements made by teams across the healthcare sector. This year, while DHCW were not winners, we were finalists across three different categories.

DHCW in collaboration with Welsh Value in Health Centre were finalists in the ‘Driving Change through Data and Analytics’ category for their work with the NHS Wales Health Data Dashboards.

‘Improving Out of Hospital Care through Digital’ saw DHCW, Cardiff University, Community Pharmacy Wales and Welsh Government as finalists for The Discharge Medicines Review (DMR) Service - Going Digital.

The Welsh Nursing Care Record were the highly commended finalists for the ‘Digital Team of the Year’.

We want to congratulate all the teams nominated and take a moment to applaud their hard work.
