It’s been over 20 days since Typhoon Mawar wiped the island of our slow but sure economic recovery from the pandemic.

We immediately went from global access to no access, which was unsettling. Not knowing the state of the island and what condition of readiness we were in after seeing the immediate destruction outside my front door left me feeling isolated and out of touch. I was thrilled to hear a familiar voice on the radio after a few days of air-wave silence. There must be a way to address the ability to send instant, real-time communication through various channels to protect and alert residents from threats and natural emergencies.
