Dear Angels,

As monsoon season winds down, autumn and cooler temperatures should soon prevail. This also signals that the Poker Party is almost here! The Poker Party committee is busy putting the finishing touches on “The Big Deal – Vegas Baby” which is Friday, September 22nd. This year is extra special because it's the 20th anniversary celebration of this fabulous event. You don't want to miss this very special evening so mark your calendars and purchase your tickets today!

August 30th was our third Halos and Highballs social event at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill. Angels had the opportunity to mingle and catch up. Thank you to Jeanne Silverberg for hosting another lovely evening enjoyed by all!

At the September General Meeting, Carla Keegan and her committee gave us a sneak peek on what we can expect at the Angel Ball.

Ball invitations are also in production, so be on the lookout for these in October. Thank you, Kristie Stevens, for your guidance and expertise through the invite design process.

Our solicitation chairs are diligently working with their respective committees to finalize silent auction contracts, chance ticket sales, casino gifts, etc. Please continue to make those calls to secure the sales and gifts! Carrie and I thank you for your hard work and dedication.

CCU is making great strides with CCU donations, but still has work to do to reach our goal of just over a million dollars this year. Thank you to our mighty Angel Village for your hard work on CCU this year and huge gratitude to all our donors – thank you.

We're less then a week away from our 20th Big Deal Poker Party!

Enjoy an evening playing casino games, bingo, and our infamous Texas Hold’em tournament. Revel in the glamour, glitz, gourmet cuisine, and entertainment! A few surprises are in store for our 20th celebration of Poker Party that includes a collaboration with the Diamond Store.

If you’re a poker player, secure your spot now in the Texas Hold’Em Tournament before it sells out! And if you’re not a poker player, we’ll have plenty of fun for you too plus Music Bingo!

We are officially over half way to our goal!! Thank you to all of our amazing donors, members and sponsors! We have received over $600,000 in pledges! If you have any potential donors please reach out.

Angel has two big shopping days coming up in October just in time for the holidays!

Saturday, October 7, 4-7pm: McLaughlin donating 15% of all sales. Clients not able to attend the event can shop a PRESALE one week prior and up to the event date. The items will be rung up on the day of the event to benefit Angel Charity.

Sunday, October 15, 2023, Noon - 6pm: Join us at Dillard’s, Park Place Mall for more shopping. 10% of all sales at designated registers will benefit Angel Charity! Look for the Angel Balloons!

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee launched the Grant Inclusion Survey to allow Angel Charity to better support our grant writers with the data they need. If you have not already done so, please fill out the anonymous Inclusion Survey by October 1, 2023. Please use the link below, or go to the Angel Member page, top right corner. It takes less than one minute to complete. We need 100% participation from all Angels to better respond to applications.

It’s Time to Sell Those Chance Tickets!

Check it out! At the October General Meeting, the 10 Angels (across all membership categories!) who have sold the most Chance Tickets will have their names entered into a raffle for $200. You don’t want to miss out! Our current Top 10 (in alphabetical order) are: Nancy Acosta, Assistance League of Tucson, Mary Coelet, Dawn Darling, Kendra Gibbons, Melissa Gibbons, Ellyn Gold, Ellen Goldstein, Cathy Hutchens, Mary Lou Martin, and Stacia Payne. Way to lead the way! And there’s still plenty of time to get yourself into the Top 10 as the eligible members will be decided one hour before the meeting starts. And remember, the deadline for selling your Chance Tickets is the day of the October General Meeting – October 11!

Thank you to everyone who has already fulfilled their Casino Gift obligation! We had a raffle for fabulous Angel swag at the September General Meeting. Congratulations to Dawn Darling! She was one of the 53 eligible Angels. We are grateful for all the hard work our Angels have dedicated to bringing in so many amazing donations.

We will not be taking Gifts at the October meeting. If you have gifts to drop off, please bring them to the Angel office. The deadline for membership obligations is October 11. Kindly leave merchandise donations on the designated tables and certificates in the Casino Gifts box on the wall. The committee would be especially appreciative to have items dropped off by October 2nd, so they can be processed in advance of the Oct. 12 committee meeting. Thank you!

A super easy way for members not on the committee to meet their commitment is to buy out at $50 per gift (3 for Actives; 1 for Ten Plus and Special Status). Follow this link for to do a buyout (payment). The link is also in the member area of the website.

The Silent Auction committee has a growing list of incredible items and experiences that will be up for bid soon! If there is something you know a donor would like to see in our Silent Auction, please contact Tana Lopez or Tracy Gaspari to share more about it and how we can secure it for the auction. Active and Ten Plus members can receive Casino Gifts credit for a Silent Auction donation, too. Ask us how!

Spotlight on Cherubs!

Sandra Barton

Sandra and her husband, Mark, of 30years have two grown daughters, Katie and Allison. Angel Charity has always been near and dear to Sandra and she now feels she has the time to commit. She loves family time, going to concerts with her daughters and reading.

Katie Bauer

Katie is a Financial Systems Analyst at TEP. She joined Angel because she enjoys being a part of groups that help children. Her father, Ben Bauer, was our Angel attorney for many years. Katie enjoys reading, yoga, plays and musicals and watching Netflix. Her favorite place to travel is Lake Tahoe.

Caroline Frostrom

Caroline and her husband, Gregg, have three children, Rebecca, Matt and Ridley. She wanted to join Angel Charity to continue her late father’s legacy of serving children in need. Caroline works as a Marketing Events Manager but previously was a vocalist and family/wedding photographer. She plans to retire in Italy where she enjoys citizenship thanks to her grandparents.

Shawna Henderson

Shawna and her husband, George of 20 years, have four children ages 19, 17, 13 and 11. She home schools her kids and still has time for hobbies that include reading, writing, and traveling. Shawna loves to travel with her favorite destinations being Switzerland, Italy, Greece, and Paris.

Larisa Samaniego

Larisa is a single mother of two sons ages 14 and 13. She works as a Broker in the cattle business. Larisa wanted to join Angel Charity because she is impressed by all of the children that benefit from our fundraising. She loves to hike, brunch and travel, especially to Sedona, New York and Mexico City.

Priya Sanan

Priya has been married to Abhay for 28 years. They have four children ages 23, 20, 17 and 10. Priya was attracted to Angel Charity because of the number of local non-profits benefiting children that we service each year. She loves cooking, reading and traveling. All of her extended family loves in India, making it her favorite place to travel.

Carrie Stigers

Carrie and her partner have been together for 10 years. She wanted to join Angel to give back and help Tucson’s children. She enjoys the outdoors: hiking, biking, swimming and loves music. Her favorite place to travel is North Carolina or anywhere with a beach.

Darlene Twiss

Darlene is married with two children. She joined Angel because the organization is made of all volunteers who prioritize our community. Darlene enjoys working local charities, hiking and playing tennis. Her favorites places to travel are Europe and Hawaii.
