We Change Lives

A Letter from the President

RUTH FERGUSON

As we all have become acutely aware, the many and varied challenges our friends and family face have led to dramatically increased demands for mental health and social service support. MCC has been addressing these needs for over 50 years. We do that through the generosity of the Town of Marblehead, private and philanthropic organizations and individuals like you.

This year, the center had the distinct honor to be awarded a Cummings Foundation grant to support our program that supervises recently graduated clinicians who are working to become fully licensed. This has opened up new opportunities to serve more clients. Thanks to the support of Representative Armini and Senator Crighton, MCC received its first state funding - $25,000. And as demand continues to grow, we continue to need your support. There are many ways you can support the center – become an event sponsor, attend events, participate in event raffles, make a contribution on Giving Tuesday, and even follow us on social media!

You're receiving this update because you’ve touched us before – as a supporter, a client, a neighbor. On behalf of the Board and staff, we want to say thank you and welcome to the first monthly installment of the Marblehead Counseling Center newsletter. Each month we plan to bring you the latest information on events/programs, the work we’re doing with our service partners in the community, and introduce you to MCC staff members. We hope you’ll enjoy reading these updates and have a great October.

OCTOBER 10: WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

#WorldMentalHealthDay

"World Mental Health Day 2023 is an opportunity for people and communities to unite behind the theme ‘Mental health is a universal human right' to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health as a universal human right.

Mental health is a basic human right for all people. Everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. This includes the right to be protected from mental health risks, the right to available, accessible, acceptable, and good quality care, and the right to liberty, independence and inclusion in the community."

Top tip from our clinicians as we move into the 'ber months

Remember to prioritize taking care of yourself: eat right, stay hydrated, get enough sleep, exercise and make time to de-stress. Most of all, don’t forget to enjoy the small moments of joy, especially as the days become shorter and we embrace the colder weather.

HIRING NEWS

Marblehead Counseling Center welcomed our newest clinical interns in June of this year. We couldn’t be happier to officially introduce, Katie Duggan, Haley Hastings and Jenna McCarriston. MCC continues its work as a premiere training ground for high-achieving students and these women truly exemplify the mission and its values. If you’re interested in scheduling a session with one of our interns, be sure to visit our website and fill out the intake form to secure your spot on our waiting list.

Katie Duggan is a graduate student at Salem State University. She worked for the center in an administrative capacity prior to becoming a clinical intern. She works part-time doing ABA therapy for children in the Boston-area. Katie is looking to work with teens and adults and has a particular interest in treating trauma and PTSD. When she’s not working, Katie can be found singing in her band and her favorite meal is tacos.

Jenna McCarriston is a graduate student at Salem State University. She has previously worked as a youth coordinator at the Department of Youth Services and Marblehead High School under the school adjustment counselor. Jenna is looking to work with clients of all ages and has a particular interest in treating anxiety and PTSD. When she’s not working, Jenna can be found by the beach. Her favorite meal is a cheeseburger with all the fixings.

Haley Hastings is a graduate student at Salem State University. She volunteers at the Crisis Text Line and currently works at Salem Hospital in the Epstein Center for Behavioral Health. Haley is looking to work with teens and young adults and has a particular interest in treating ADHD, anxiety, depression and PTSD. In her free time, she can be found spending time with her 3 dogs and exploring outdoors. Her favorite food is anything with cheese.
