Hyde Park School-
What a lovely event Saturday! We are emailing to extend our gratitude for contracting us out, and for putting in the work leading up to the event to ensure that the composting was a success. Having the non-compostable pumpkins smashed in a separate area was vital to keeping contamination out of the bins - thanks, too, for spearheading this.
In total, we composted 3,771 pounds of pumpkins! We partnered with Camp Washington Urban Farm to process all of the pumpkins from the event.
I also wanted to pass along information about our residential drop-off service for you to put in the PTO Newsletter and any other platforms that the PTO uses. The Church of the Redeemer on Erie hosts a drop-off bin for us - it is accessible 24/7, and can be accessed for a small, monthly sliding-scale fee. It is a great option for Hyde Park and Oakley households that don't have other options for composting.
Thanks again for this partnership, and we look forward to working together in the future!
Best,
Julia

We have been experiencing an ongoing problem with student drop off and pick up as it relates to families using Edwards Rd and Observatory Ave.
Dropping off and picking up students on these two roads is not only a logistical problem, it is more importantly a safety issue. Although the car line gets backed up and moves more slowly, it is the safest way to take care of your children at arrival and dismissal.
You MAY NOT drop off or pick up your students on these two roads. Please find a legal parking spot in the neighborhood if you are not using the carline. Walk your students to the crosswalk and use the crosswalk to get them to school safely.
Additionally, we have received numerous calls from neighbors and business owner about our families using their business parking lots, or blocking driveways to drop off and pick up their child. Please extend the courtesy of being a good neighbor to those who live and work near HPS.
Finally, I want to stress the importance of NOT turning left out of our parking lot, especially during drop off and pick up times. It slows our line down considerably, and creates a risk of having an accident with an oncoming car, which actually occurred a couple of weeks ago.
Thank you for keeping safety a priority at Hyde Park School.

Hi Happy Hyde Park Families,
Thank you so much for your support of this year's food drive. We are well on our way to our goal of gathering one item per student in the school.
As we approach the final donation days, we noticed that we are short on rice mixes, mashed potatoes, and pasta sauce. We also need more oatmeal and granola bars. Of course any donations will go a long way, so give what you can, even if it's not in these categories.
As a reminder, the last day to donate is November 15.
Here is the list of donation items again:
Kindergarten- Instant oatmeal, Granola bars, Canned fruit
First Grade- Just add water baking mixes
Second Grade- Cereal
Third Grade- Mac ’n’ Cheese, Pasta, Pasta Sauce
Fourth Grade- Canned soup, Canned veggies, Canned beans
Fifth Grade- Popcorn, Crackers ( sandwich crackers), Pretzels
Sixth Grade-Stuffing mixes, Rice mixes, Mashed potatoes
With gratitude,
2023-24 Student Council

We are looking for a permanent Crosswalk attendant, but in the mean time we really need some parent help to keep everyone safe crossing the street! It will only take 20 minutes of your time in the morning or afternoon.
If you have a little extra time before or after school, please sign up for a spot here
Stop Sign and sweet neon vest will be provided :)

Our youngest students are in need of some assistance during lunchtime. Tasks like opening cheese sticks, yogurt lids, and even putting straws in drink boxes can be challenging to little hands. If you could spare 30 minutes of your time, please join our lunch period to help make the most of this important time! You will need to check in at the main office at 10:00am and will then be directed to the cafeteria.

Many people don't even realize just how easy the Box Tops for Education Program is now that it has gone virtual. No more clipping and collecting a pile of Box Tops. Just download the Box Tops App, scan your grocery receipt, instantly identify Box Tops products, and automatically add cash to our school’s earnings online. You can also email your online receipts to earn credit. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for your school. This may not sound like much, but it adds up to hundreds of dollars!
